Question

What colour??????

The blue looks good........but is it too common?

The black looks good.......but is it too much grief to keep clean?
(already had a black car, so I know how quickly they get dirty ) and i'm not sure about the green tint it appears to have in sunlight...is it that obvious?

The silver looks.......actually I haven't seen one in silver!

All your opinions are welcomed and so are any pics to help me decide.

Thanks!

Well i thought silver wernt a nice colour, then i saw one at a dealership, the wheels had been dipped to an anthracite colour and it looked fantastic , best colour ive seen and it can be done 4 40quid per wheel, mind u the dealer should be able 2 get it done in the deal!

Just make sure it's a JDM model and not a UK spec, you'll only regret if you then see a JDM afterwards.

I had a blue STI8, my dealer, knowing me very well by now, wouldn't sell me any other colour as blue is the most popular therefore most easily resold (which I did 5 months after buying it).
To be honest Silver with big showy gold wheels looks better though IMHO, rarer - which is nice, and more sophisticated/grownup.
I didn't consider black due to the dirt issue...they look great when clean though.
White is fabbo as it's ultra-rare, but may be difficult to resell...then again an enthusiast might just pay more for it..but dealers certainly wouldn't.

White

Dare to be different.

from a practical perspective:-

Blue - traditional, looks good, probably worth more come sale time. OK for general wear and tear but not great. Stone chips show up, and not easy to hide them when touched up. Very common.

Black - lol - never again am I having a black car. No matter how careful you are you will get fine scratches, chips etc and general road rash which looks worse on black as the miles go on. Black cars don't age well close up. Nightmare to keep clean - always has to be polished for best results. easy to hide the chips though. Main problem is that any marks no matter how small will show due to light reflection in the laquer coat which most blacks (and certainly Scooby metallic black) have.

Current car (black ) has 40000 miles now, always carefully washed, waxed (Zymol) and looked after. From 10 feet away, looks great. Looks crap close up though

Silver - hides the dirt, scratches & chips quite well, easy to make it look good when clean. Easy to polish out small blemishes & fine scratches. Good colour for cleaning up nicely never see watermarks. Wife's car is silver, was never going to be anything else. Doesn't suit the MY03 as well though IMO

White - different, easiest of all colours to polish out fine scratches and touch up chips as no top laquer coat (usually). Ages well if looked after. Get the rally slag look when dirty and IMO looks great with red STI mud flaps. Cleans up well and easily. Not metallic, so should be easier to match in the unfortunate event paintwork required. Surprisingly "tough" paint. But not as popular so may not be worth as much come trade in time. But rare and exclusive (good and bad...LOL...)

Anyway, there's the practical issues, but you should go with what you think looks best.

Thumbs up

Mines on order in Black, so get the blue

Seriously, went for black as I already have a blue 7 and wanted a change. I suspect I'll get a blue one next time.

The dealer said Blue and Black would be easy to sell. Silver always popular, and white would be the hardest to shift.

Unhappy

Be wary though - Silver is the worst colour to touch up. (so my mate in the body shop business says)

Question

If (and thats a big if) I was likely to get some form of 'deal' from a dealer, would the colour affect how much they are willing to 'knock-off'?

Still undecided....really want to see some pics of a silver one, anyone got any? I had a look on Well Lanes site but I didn't notice any pics of a silver STi.

White is special order only, so i suspect it would be harder to get anything (or as much) knocked off.

Thats what I thought. In the brochure it lists the only colours available for the STi as: Blue, Black, Silver and White (Special order).

I've got a Blue-black STi7 and still think that it looks the best out of available colours. However given an opportunity to get another STi, I would not buy black for the reasons mentioned above. My wife's car is black and its not half as difficult to keep clean and as well as this, the STi shows up all the most trivial scratches. My previous car was a silver MY98 and it was no problem to keep clean and hid the scratches.

I've seen a couple of silver STi's and think that they look good but would change to anthracite or silver wheels.
