dead_neurons,

you edited you're original post too many times

it's now disappeared.

agree with xxx - it's a my99 bumper, not sti as you originally asked , or it would have fog light covers

Not sure I agree with Triple X, that looks the same as on a p1.

I don't think the standard 99/00 car has a bar across the grill

And the P1 also has a MY99 bumper but comes complete with a lip and loses the big fogs in favour of some small spots

well apparently its a 98R, so the question would then be, why does it have a 99/00 front end (if indeed it isn't from a proper 98).
the car is supposed to be totally original - theres no mods i can see, even got the original subaru stereo and exhaust.
I would imagine it would only have a new (Different) front end if the previous owner had a prang in it.
if this is a proper 98R could it theoretically be a late 98R to get that front end?

Cheers!

I doubt it as even the early S plates had the early inpreza bumper. I belive the MY99 bumper was fitted to Dec 98 cars and onwards

Here's a pic of the standard 99/00 grill, it doesn't have a bar across the middle.

the text is wrong, i test drove it last wednesday, it doesnt have a big bore exhaust, and i think when they say V4 they mean the 98' facelifted version with the nicer insides & the momo steering wheel. it has however only done 39K miles as advertised.
It drives perfect, although exactly how well i could tell is questionable after stepping out of my SAAB into that.. since i have no idea what a real scoob is supposed to drive like. Engine sounded sweet, couldnt hear any knocking/det even under decent acceleration. The only thing which worried me was the bumper.. after inspecting other R reg scoobs, i hadn't seen that front end before which made me suspicious. The garage looks fine, they have a lot of imports, so i dont think they're fly by night merchants...
I wanted a proper inspection doing, but they're inthe middle of nowhere so i have 2 choices.. the usual AA/RAC cack handed inspection for £120, or (since its warranted) buy it, take it somewhere like SubCity in rotheram, and get any faults fixed under warranty. I just dont want a crash damaged car.
which route would you guys take?

cheers!!

NENO, on the picture thread you posted, is that your car and if not hasnt the bar and number plate not been removed by photoshop?
The reason i think that is because if the number plate had been physically removed you would see the mounting on which it sits.

Why would there be two versions of the same bumper?

Mortywrx, I aggree , i do prefer this style front end, personally i think it makes it look more aggressive. HPI wont be any good since its a fresh import, Supposedly a grade 4 car tho, so i dont imagine it will have been damaged!. Its just the paranoia is already setting in, and i havent even bought the bugger yet!
i hate to think what its going to be like when its sat outside/left in meadowhell's car parks!

Exclamation

One thing to look for is a dull paint finish on the inside of the engine bay, under the bonnet etc.. It shouldnt have the same finish as that on the outside of the car. Same applies for the boot area.

Cheers TrippleX, already done that - checked under the rubber strips etc, looked for overspray all the usual signs etc. At 36 i'd like to think im not as green as a cabbage when buying motors, but buying a £10K car with no real history makes even me real nervous!!

cheers

If you offer a couple of beers out, i'm sure someone with some real Scoob knowledge will be only too glad to come and look at the car with you
Put a shout out and see what happens

I would Brun, but I dont have the time to go myself! hence the reason for wanting an arrange-by-phone inspection, otherwise that sounds just the ticket!, im supposed to go pick up the car by the midnext week, and i'll probably have to push that to the weekend, since im approaching the end of a project (Games software dev schedules suck ***) and will prolly be working 20 hour days

i'll remember that though for the next one

cheers!

it will be a proper 280bhp wrx as well

imported white cars area total pain to colour match
so if u cant tell its been painted then i would bet that it hasnt been painted in this country

ive spoke to a lot of uk owners with jap imports, who have all had/have still, a white car and they have all said the same regarding the paintwork

i spoke to MRO about a prepainted front spoiler and they expressed the same opinions

i find it strange that its got the low level spoiler tho, i would have expected it to have the mid level version, but the spec of these japs cars can vary quite a bit
