I am currently insured with Elephant.co.uk with my UK300.

Was looking to buying a WRX 03 with PPP, checked via Dumbo website that this would be covered. Checked "performance exhaust" and "engine chip 11-25%" gave me an increase of around £200.

So I ordered a WRX03 with PPP.

Not too bad I thought. Then I emailed them to check that I needed to cover this with it being a "Subaru accessory".

After some further communication they now stated that because the PPP consists of a remap the underwriters stated they wouldn't insure the vehicle at all?

An engine chip is the same thing to me, you replace the EPROM with a remapped one? I tried to explain this to them but no help.

I asked if I had gone through the website only, would I be insured, they said no!! (glad I emailed them now)

So basically, if you are insured with Dumbo.co.uk and you added PPP via the website (as they are a website based company) then I will doubt that you are insured.

I am going to take this further with the relevant body as I think this is a very dangerous practice by Dumbo.

MODS - Please leave in general for a while as I think this needs a good viewing.

Cheers

Bogie

Try liverpool victoria, i just changed to them after having problems due to mods.
They say they are not interested in any mods as long as you do not alter the cc of the engine.
They just ask that you have documented evidence to prove the spec of your car in the unfortunate event that you need to make a claim.
good luck,

I think they would be on dodgy ground trying to avoid paying out but no doubt they would!
Also the modifications are not covered - bearing in mind the cost of the PPP and the increased premium I think this is poor practice.

I experienced the same thing with Elephant, only the guy I spoke to on the phone said I WOULD have been insured for PPP had I completed online (as I'd ticked the right boxes) but they wouldn't insure PPP over the phone! Inconsistency equals "walk away" as far as I'm concerned. You pay enough for insurance so make sure it is worth it and you are covered.

Bell Direct are part of the same company and the exact website, call centre inconsistency exists there too. I'm sure you would have a good case in the event of a claim but is it worth the risk?

I'd also recommend HIC, they have no problems giving me an insurance quote on a Ford KA with a 1.8 Turbo engine and a roll cage, I doubt PPP will be a problem for you

Valley Boy - your reference to Bell Directs website looking the same is because its an off the shelf package alot of car insurance companies are using. Far cheaper than having your own built!

Liverpool Victoria are the nuts IMO!

Track cover will cover you for unlimited track days as long as they are are organised by a member of the ATDO or ARDS, or a Vehicle Manufacturer and are non-competitive events....ie no racing
