Just had the tek 2.5 ecu, full scoobysport decat and sti 5 intercooler taken off my car and its so slow now!!! Its quiet as hell even when booted and feels so lame Previously at 2k rpm I'd plant my foot and the car would start to pull nicely, at about 2.5k rpm I'd get a nice shove and she'd take off. Now I plant my foot at 2k rpm and nothing happens! What feels like minutes later and the turbo starts to spool up but its days before it starts to make decent boost!!! When it finally does and gets going it soon starts to run out of puff at the top end and its gearchange time

You 'standard' scooby guys have no idea what you are missing! You can probably get a second hand tek 2 for £3-400 and a full decat second hand for about the same! Trust me that would be the best £700-odd you'd ever spend because the difference between my car 48 hours a go and now is huge. 1st and 2nd gear are particularly pathetic now I've not ventured into 4th but this is where the tek really showed itself so I'm almost frightened to take her on the bypass tonight.

Go get tek people. If you never listen to anything I ever say again then trust me on this. You need to modify your impreza

At the moment I'm considering a 406 v6 with all the toys. Fuel is a issue!! Also considering a 156 20 t-spark. All forms of oil burners under consideration also.

Having driving the car some more it is seriously difficult not to speed Despite being slower its still a very fast car but now there isn't the savage acceleration and most importantly noise to remind me I'm pilling on the mph! I find myself pulling away from roundabouts thinking I'm mostly behaving and then I check out the speedo

Yep, yet think how fast you probably thought it was when you first ever drove a Scooby!

I agree totally, when my g/f traded her old Saxo VTS in against a Clio Cup, I replaced the old exhaust, cat and airbox, and jeez it felt sooooo slow. (not that it was particularily rapid anyway).

what felt slow? The vts, cup or scooby? A cup with those mods would be pretty much as fast as an MY99/00 but wouldn't feel it though.

No, when we traded the Saxo in, I put it back to standard, making it feel comparitively slower than what it had been.

Ah, I see I didn't realise a zorst and filter made so much of a difference to a saxo

Putting cars back to standard sucks

Saxo boy, my WRX MY01 is standard engine wise except for a magnex b/box. my mate has a 99 uk turbo, power engineering ecu upgrade and de-catted system with 273 bhp, as well as a k+n induction kit. I have played around with him to see the difference in our cars, but i am not so impressed. he may have the edge on me, but im always within reach. it does feel quick when you drive it, but i cant justify upgrading for so little difference.
Wot do you think? is he driving like a girl? should he be nailing me? or are BUGEYES just faster standard?

I've often thought about this following many comparisons with Sipie's car which only had a backbox at the time. We concluded that my car was quicker but because the basic engine, the weight and the gearing are all the same it isn't easy to make it show. My car would pull away from his in 4th gear and in particular in 1st and 2nd. However, we normally would compare between 30-80mph so it was very difficult for me to pull any lead in that range. The 1/4m time says it all You're friends car would be noticeably quicker than your bugeye. Also driver for driver and assuming similar handling he should be able to pull away in the twisties with the extra punch and more critically the quicker spool up. My car is very slow to get going now

To really show up another car you need to be a lot more powerful. Also, you've changed you bb which IMHO makes a big difference. I played with a few classics that had pee-shooters and I'd pull several car lengths on them...that's quite a lot

The other day a 360 modena only pulled a few car lengths on me (pre-tek removal) He certainly didn't 'blow' me away.

Know just how you feel saxoboy...

Just got rid of MY99 which had TEK2 & full Scoobysport exhaust. Although I left the exhaust on to the guy I sold it to, I managed to sell the TEK2 separate.

Driving the Scoob after I sold the TEK2 was a massive difference and just felt like a different car completely.. Actually made selling it slightly easier also as it no longer felt like my car.
