Fellow Scooby owners,
My mate is going to have a look at a MY02 Sti PPP (Private sale) that he may consider buying. The asking price is £21k and the guy is currently the 2nd owner. He reckons around £7k has been spent on mods so far. Being a year old it still has the balance of the manufacturers waranty and the mileage is at 14,000m.

Some Q's he asks:
What's the service intervals on this model?

Average MPG.. commuting normal driving?

It has Prodrive 18" alloys. How much are tyres (Each) and how long do they last (average)?

Is the tracker system transferable?

Anything else my mate should check for before he reduces the weight of his wallet?

Thanks in advance.

BTW
This is the exact add.

2002 SUBARU Impreza STi Prodrive ,
2002, 14000 miles, UK special edition, metallic blue/ black. 300+ bhp, prodrive power pack covered by Subaru warranty, tracker, 18 prodrives, 1000 watt spots, car & extras cost over £33,000. The best looking & upgraded Impreza you will find. Truly amazing. £21,999.

Does this justify the extra costs?

Walk away and get a new WRX with PPP for less money and you'll get a 3 year warranty. Not quite as fast, but then it won't depreciate as fast and is probably a better long term buy.

I dont really see how a new car will depreciate less than a car that is over a year old and has already taken a big depreciation hit??

If its got £7k of extras get a list of them - especially as non subaru approved performance enhancing products will void the warranty!

Tyres will cost you circa £100 for 225 40 18 (Recent Micheldever price for F1 was £107 fitted)

Expect 210 from a tank (£36 to fill so not quite empty) round town, up to 260 on a steady run.

Is the tracker system transferable
If it's an RAC Trackstar the subscription is NOT transferrable, trust me i know I found out the hard way

Been to see the car this morning.

MY02 Sti PPP.
The specs:
2 owners, Ex-show car, fully loaded with dump valve, 18" Prodrive alloys, 225x40x18 tyres, dump valve, anti-roll strut braces in front and in rear!, Brembo calipers.

Had three oil changes every 1000 miles with its first owner. Does this indicate it could have been on the track?.. why else would you change the oil so often?

Back offside rear bumper has seen some action and has been resprayed. Poor finish I might add as the lacquered finish is not that good.
Rear offside light not flush with boot door, most probably due to the rear impact that damaged the bumper.
Rear ligh has a small crack dead center.
A couple of mild door dents.
Two of the alloy wheels had big scuffs (kerb damage).

Does a dump valve void warranty?

How much is it worth or would you steer clear.

Frank,
There are enough decent MY02 STi's out there (Prodrive and non Prodrive models) that have 18's and PPP, that are not accident damaged.
The oil changes do suggest that the car could have had track day usage, 1000 mile intervals shows hard wear really, the other suggestion is that the 1000 mile interval was a change in oil from new, then another change later on to fully synthetic oil?
The DV (i take it its a dump to atmosphere?) will invalidate the warranty (unless the dealer fitted it to the car and is willing to accept the consequences if the engine runs a little lean.....).
The RAC trackstar subscription will be transferable, your local subaru dealer should be able to do this as the RAC Trackstar is a part of the package when you get a UK STI (fitted with the other security before delivery).
