dust on trailing edges? Very strange

Got home last night to find dust patterns on the rear of my spoiler, front edges of my wheel arches, and the back of the roof.
At first glance looked like stone chips - little craters, but they were just dust.
Anyone know how these get there? Is it airflow or something complicated like that?
Our area is very dusty generally - often you get a thin layer after leaving it out overnight. Any recommendations - worth getting a car cover?

You've really got two options;
a) wash it
or
b) wait until it rains
Surprisingly enough, all cars get dirty
I don't believe it's an early indication that your engine's about to blow up...

I know its dirty, its just that the pattern was odd - lots of little crater type patterns in the dust. Just wondered if anyone else had noticed that specific thing.
It'll get a wash tonight or tomorrow morning (can I wash an hour after driving, or won't it have cooled down by then?)
I'm not doing the bloody thing twice a week! - sodding gorgeous black mica :P

Dusty in Windsor???
You should try living in a town with a bl**dy steelworks, mate
The dust is usually iron oxide based, and makes a fekkin brilliant abrasive!

MY02 WRX. Get very obvious dirty patches behind the trailing edges of the rear doors, although the shutlines are pretty smooth. First time I saw it I thought that someone had bashed the car.
