Bonehead, was in the exact same situation 8 months ago, had to get rid of my MY95 escort mexico, big engine problems, so got someone to fix it up and proceeded to try and flog it.

.. 2 weeks of moaning and groaning as I couldn’t sell the escort privately, went around the local dealers/traders to see what was around. Found a scooby GL MY99 sitting on the forecourt for a bit more than I could afford, but took it out for a little spin and was well impressed with the handling, so it came down to the GL or another escort id seen. So after a night of deciding to go with either the sensible option (escort) or 'live a little' option, I headed over to the dealers the next day and signed the papers and picked up the keys for the scooby ... and never looked back since!

I know its not a turbo but after a zorst mod it put and even bigger smile on my face and still does when I drive it today

Not sure if this helps, just my little experience

Lee

(waiting till next summer for the 25yrs & 5NCB to kickin to hopefully get a turbo )

Question

Hi All.

I'm going to have a look at a scoob I'm seriously considering buying tomorrow.
I'm going for this one because it's
a/ They'll take my s**tbox in P/X
B/ It's pretty cheap for a reasonably new car.
c/ I need something quickly.

I just wanted your opinions on it

1998 S Reg Subaru Impreza 2.0 GL
Petrol, Estate, 99,850 miles , 5 Doors. ABS, airbag, alloy wheels, radio/cassette, central locking, colour coded bumpers and mirrors, full electrics, fog lights, full service history, immobiliser, MOT at delivery, power assisted steering.12 Month MOT 3 Month Warranty

High mileage I know, but the dealer reckons its been regularly serviced, etc
I reckon I can get it for well under three.

What do you think?

Tony

I've got the 4 door and love it to bits, it has been heavily modified to a turbo lookalikey plus engine mods but its great, all the scooby fun but without the whopping insurance. However this does sound a bit cheap, make sure you go over everything with a fine tooth comb, TWICE cos if anything is wrong it will cost ya.eg my last service was £1800 plus the £300+ next week on a wheel bearing. However if you are happy with it then deffo go for it , you won't be dissapointed (unless you already have a turbo!)
