I have just found out that my car has missed a service and so am not to happy, i was wondering if anyone could tell me what options i have?

I purchased my car an MY01 in April 2003, it had 19000 miles on the clock and the dealer told me it had just had its 20000 mile service. At the time the salesman told me that they could'nt stamp the book until i had bought it, as it was serviced when the garage had ownership of it. I was happy with this and decided to extend the warrenty for an extra 18 months so i had a full 3 years from Subaru.

I have now covered 28000 miles and thought i better arrange a service. After speaking to the dealer they informed me that they cannot find any record of the car being serviced, and i completely forgot about getting the book stamped. I have confronted the salesman who still says it was serviced and along with the service dept has been trying to find a record of it. They havent found the record.

I know i need to get that oil changed asap as it hasnt been done for 18000 miles, but what do i do? Is my warranty invalid? Should the dealer pay for this service? Could the fact that the oil is so old cause any problems in years to come as it hasnt been providing full protection?

Help!

IIRC

If you miss a service you cannot get the cheaper(£340 ish for ) "extended" 2year Warranty scheme, which carries on where the IM one left off

You will have to have the dearer £500 ish for "Ordinary" or "high milliage" 2year Warranty scheme.

It's has been quite common for cars on the Forecourt to miss a service and then forgot to do it when sold 1 owner of 2 P1's I know, has had same problem one has "extended" Warranty the other has the dearer 2 year Scheme

Yeah its a UK vehicle from a well known main dealer, and im not at all happy with them trying to fob me off. They basically said it should be due an oil change soon then and I should book it in to have them carry it out!

The extended warrenty i purchased was about £500, but will this now be invalidated because it has missed the 20000 mile service?

Im more worried about possible damage that may have been caused as I drive it very hard. I had an engine go on my last car an Alfa GTV which was put down to oil starvation which they said happened early in the cars life, that ended up costing almost £4000 to sort! Also is this a case of the dealer mis selling the car to me?
