.. go to car, press button for alarm, no joy, tried everything, but nothing worked.
Ring Wallis to see if he has any batteries to hand, no but he will get me some.
1 hour later he arrives in a brand new M3 SMG, short, mad trip later, i have batteries.
Replace batteries in key fob and try again, no joy.
So still stuck at work, waiting for Emma to ring me with the pin code for the immobiliser.
Anyone have any ideas what the problem could be?

MIne did the same last week. Left my keys in my gym kit-bag and then left that in a m8's car.
Brother arrives 20mins later with my spare fob and nothing Replace batteries and ... nothing Bodge together 4 1.5v batteries and .... nothing (the wee red light is always on when I pressed the button, so it was trying to transmit the code).
Eventually had to open the door, set the alarm off and disarm using the pin code.

The key fob was doing nothing, absolutely nothing. I have worked where i do for nearly 9 years, and have had 3 subarus over nearly 5 years, always park in the same place at our office, and have never had a problem.
Today, they keyy fob did absolutely nothing and i mean nothing other than flash the led on the fob.
Unlocked the door with the key, and all doors unlock, so suggest battery is ok. Emma rings me with number and i open door and type it in, turn ignition and cars starts spot on.
Drive home, nearly 50 miles, and stop car turn off, use keyfob to arm, then disarm.
WTF is going on?
Could it be the battery in the alarm system?

Check your local planning office. They are putting up new radio/phone masts all the time. They were even installing them in petrol station signs. The overload from their emissions will defo give the symptoms that you are getting.
When this happened to me,by just pushing the car a few hundred yards down the road,it was cured.

its all down to radio interference plain and simple
I found out the easy way when my scoob would not unlock and I brought my van round with the tools in to have a look, and then the van (Ford) would not unlock either, so there I am with two vehicles next to each other and both keyfobs useless......
Then I remembered that I'd left a small household transmitter device switched on (Cant say what as the thieves would love that info) so turned it off and hey presto buttons work.
I bet if you pushed it 25 metres you would be fine, its SIAL too you know

I've been having a similar problem with my Clio, all ok, owned it no probelm for a yearand then about 2 weeks ago. Now I stand there and click repeatidly and nothing happens, battries are fine as the little red light is still flashing but there is no way its going to let me in the car.
Its especially bad at college and only slightly better at home.

David, it took you a while to figure it out though
Nick, will have a look, could be Davids fault when he moved the fuel pump relay, as i think the wire is down there. (Joke)
It worked fine last night at home and this morning at home and when i dropped it off for service.
Wierd.

Steven,
it started happening to mine recently,
in a big industrial estate car parks with lots of auto opening doors around.
I couldn't figure it out either and didn't believe for a second it was radio interference, but it seems to be such a common problem that I now believe it totally.
Only seems to affect sigmas, which is sadly what I chose to install.
Will learn my code off by heart, but last time I tried to use that thing I set the bloody thing off.
What is the technique for entering the code, is it simply open with key, set alarm off and insert pin to switch off alarm and immboliser?
Perhaps it really is time for a sekura or even dare I say it, a clifford?

Yeah our local Safeway just stuck a damn mast in and I can only use the remote on the Forester by sticking it square over the receiver on the dash..PITA but it does work...weird that the 22B doesnt get it..parked 15 feet away.

Don't need to think Clifford - if it's a Sigma M30, it is a recognised fault. Sigma will upgrade the box to a shielded one for free. See your local Subaru dealer
Had mine done last November - haven't had any probs since.
Talking of crap ends to bad days - had to put my daughter's pet rabbit down last night Stupid thing had kick the back of it hutch and broke it leg and back
Not pleasant.

lo, just had the same problem myself with my standard alarm.
Parked up in an area of Sandbach that I've not parked in before, got out, tried to blip the alarm and nothing. Thought the batteries might have gone as I've had to be right up to the car to get it to work recently, so manually locked the car and walked up into town. Bought some new batteries and fitted them, walked to the car, nothing.
Thought it'd be fixed, but no, no joy. Had this problem at Silverstone with their radio transmitters, so thought it may be something similer. This time I just popped the bonnet and kept pressing the alarm fob around the siren area of the engine bay until the alarm clicked on. Another couple of minutes frantically pressing got the alarm to disarm and the doors to open, legged it to the drivers dorr and got it started pronto.
drove home, alarm works fine from the far side of the house through three brick walls.
So go figure.
At least the batteries were only a fiver....

Check where phone masts are here.....

I couldn't arm my standard alarm at the hospital the other day, key fob wouldn't do anything, locked it manually, came back 2 hours later and it worked straightaway. Weird!

Just had my alarm system replaced under warranty as one of the key fobs refused to work, the immobiliser sometimes worked and then again didn't. Always took repeated pushing of the "working" key fob to activate alarm and this was when no masts or aerials in the vicinity.
Will have to see how it goes but all well at the mo.
