Quicksprint,
i think your mistaken somewhere about the legallity of having a decat on an MY93, ie its still illegal.
Any car that had a cat fitted after 1989 needed to have one fitted for its mot, all cars had to have cats fitted in 1993, so your still breaking the law (like most of us no doubt ) and should have to fit one, even if the car is a grey import to comply with the SVA and MOT.

older models will always be the ones that are remberd
i mean even subaru call them classics
the very eraly classics wont all be keved up becuase the kevs wont be able to insure them (tricky when standerd nigh on impossible when modified)
chill out
i heard all this kind of rubbish when i got mine, cheap and becoming more commen cars that are driven by ex-saxo owners (not my words lol)
yes i now have a few mates who have a classic, but i wouldnt call them "keved" up
apart from a set of dodgy lexus rear lights the rest of them are modified with sti/p1 parts
your bound to get the odd one with a full on fibresmash bodykit rivvited on, but let them be, there not hurting anybody except the car underneath
IMO

Sorry mate but you have been mis informed....cats only have to be fitted for mot purposes from 93 onwards(Manufacturers had to from 1988 comply with strict emission laws that ruled cars had to be able to run on unleaded fuel).
My car is an import, doesn't show on the MOT data base for emission details so is exempt from a full cat test if it doesn't pass the BET test. This also applies to any import up to 1995 if it is not listed on the data base, after 1995 it has to comply with the full cat test if it fails the BET test regardless.
There is no mention of a cat having to be fitted in the Testers manual...only the details of the emission test.....an exhaust system can be failed for being incomplete but it doesn't define what parts make up a system.
Mine wasn't SVA'd because it was too old when imported.

I saw the pics of the crash scene and the skid marks on this one. Would hazard a guess that he backed off mid corner, causing the **** end to come round. Apparantly had 4 people in the car, including the girlfriend!!!!!
Also heard that he had 3rd party insurance only.

Whats all this crap about getting rid of all the 'old scoobs' before they get 'kev'd up' ???
I drive and own a MY93 classic because:
1. It can be de-catted legally for the MOT(none of this putting it back on each year/worrying about roadside checks)
2. I cannot afford to spend out 15-20k on a newer model(big mortgage/other commitments)
3. The classic IMHO is the better shape.
4. I am an enthusiast and hence look after all my cars.(be it 10 years old or 1 month old).
It's not just the older scoobs that are getting within the price reach of the m*x po*er brigade....BMW,mercedes,lexus,GTIR's.(i have seen these makes of cars being driven stupidly as well)
There is no easy solution to stopping young or inexperienced drivers from taking the wheel of a high powered vehicle........
or is there??
Some people have more money than sense and this will always be the case.
steve. (40 year old owner of an old classic )
If it was the owner driving then i hope he recovers from his injuries and learns something from his misfortune.
BUT
If it was a thieving sc*mbag then i hope they suffered
.............one less car thief won't go amiss.
