Turning up to a client site in a Scooby!
#1
OK, so there must be 1000's of owners on here who are IT/Business Consultants - any interesting reactions when you pull up in the client's carpark in a roaring, pimp-tinted, body kitted Impreza and then charge £1000 a day for your (professional) services?
The reaction I got from a senior guy recently was 'What on Earth is that?'

If someone pulled up to my place in a scoob id think they were either
a) going to ram raid it
b) do an armed robbery...
c)they had turned up for a cruise
Flame suit zipped up and ready for toasting

£1000 a day - try half a day
I love it - normally car parks are full of the normal BMs / Ford etc company cars. Always guaranteed to get a smile and a response. Also helps big time if the bloke you're seeing is a petrolhead!

I never used to let them see me turn up, that way there isnt a problem.........however Ive just bought a brand new S2000 and am worried about turning up at work in it(different job). Everyone thinks Im earning twice as much as them......problem is they are about right, Im contracting, they are permies..........this isnt going to help my them and us situation, I cant avoid them seeing it and Im worried its going to cause friction in the ranks. The rest of the staff are in car worth less than £3000 all bar a few.

I was at a building site In Hucclecote (gloucestershire) a few months back, just getting on with my job and this Jet black, clean as a whistle Sti 7 / 8 rolls in, I'm talking over the rough hardcore entrance they had laid down.
never got the chance to speak to the guy as I had a cement mixer waiting to unload and I hadn't finished welding the re-bar in.

Always turn up at clients site's.get mixed reactions.most have a grin when they see me rumble into their car park.
Some ask me if i am single, but get confused when they see the baby seat in the back!!
Best reaction though was not at a clients, but when we went to do a car boot and everyone was trying to do deals for the car and not all my pap..lol

I manage a builders merchant in Staffs and always park the car right outside an open office door to keep an eye out. I can't believe the number of comments and conversations I get from customers, both builders and DIY'ers. Most people admire it and want to know more about it, and best of all, because it's cleaned 3 or 4 times per week (it's white) they can't believe how old it is ( MY96 wagon).
Proud of my scoob, NEVER embarrassed.

The reaction I get to the Scooby isn't anywhere near as bad as the one I got when I turned up in a TVR Chimaera :-)
I even got sympathy from one client!! How little some people know....

Unfortunately, the type of clients I work with haven't seen much life outside a datacentre, so they often don't know what a Subaru is! I always get the look as if to say, "oh you're well 'ard"!

Went to a job interview last week and during a general chat afterwards the conversation turned to cars (as I'll need to use it from time to time) and when the prospective boss found out I drove an Impreza Turbo he got very exited and asked if he could have a go...

used to really made my boss laugh whenever i turned up in my ex typeR v4 with hiper, tints, carbon spoiler and bodykit plus all stickered up at the management's car park. makes all the bm's merc's bently and porkers look so normal was a comment.
at least i could say that he wasnt paying me enough.

If you're concerned about what clients think when going to see them, get yourself a cheap Rover 600 SDI to run aswell. I leave it in the office car park and just take the old faithful sdi to those clients which are unhappy when you turn up in a brand new scoob or any other car for that matter!

had a problem onsite at one of my customers only a few miles away. Had to wangle getting an engineer there but he had no car. Was funny leaving the car park then five minutes later calling our support desk to tell them he was onsite. They were abit shocked it didn't take the normal four hours to get an engineer to do anything!
Now know as the ' company rapid response unit'!

Love the "rapid response unit" - I think I'll use that
I am a corporate bank manager and I can count 4 bits of new business I have won in the last 2 years purely because of the Scooby.
I rumble into the car park and put the car where it can be seen from the customer's windows. If the customer / prospect comments within the first few minutes about the car I know the deal is as good as done.
On one occasion I parked up next to another Scooby which turned out to belong to the finance direcor - from then on he was like putty in my hands.
On another occasion the MD came down into the car park to "open the door" for me before I'd even got half way across the carpark, but it was really so he could see the car. We talked cars for a couple of hours and suddenly Nat West had lost a customer!!!
I have never had a bad reference made about the Scooby and would recommend it to anyone that goes out to see clients.
Andy
PS. Does anyone want a new bank manager ???

My Scoob has always been a bit of a conversation piece at work. Although those who have been in it soon go quiet.
We have an underground car park at the office. Boss reckons it rattles the building when I start up.

I bought my UK 99 turbo and a week later a mate of mine bought an RB5. Both parked up in full view at work in the car park.
Next thing we know, the senior management are complaining that 'that lot in IT have all got fancy cars and them Imprezas aren't on the company car list'.
I've heard since that the new company car list will include Scoobs.
Talk about a trend setter!!!

Just did it today, the two guys I was meeting later on said they saw the Scoob and said at least he isn't driving a BM he might even have a sense of humour!
As I was leaving they walked me uot and had a look at the car... I almsot laughed out loud after making a fuss of the car for most of the day there wasn't and MY02 in Sonic blue and gold wheels parked two cars down next to a DBM sport!
At least mine was "less boy racer like" in the green... the sonic blue had standard exhaust and no body kit... mine on the other hand...
