I'm with you Harry on this one
Just got back from a blast in the Scoob round the country lanes near me and yes its great fun to be with, handles etc etc. but straight line speed it's severly lacking?? My Escort Cossie would pull like a train higher up the rev range, and I'm pretty sure it would be considerably quicker then the Scoob at least in a straight-line and I really didn't expect that I have to say
the power comes in and you think oh yes here we go, but then nothing I assume this is due to the lag free'ish weeny turbo??
I also believe the figures quoted by prodrive are nigh on impossible to replicate, which in my opinion is a joke!
Not completely unhappy with it as it has so many other virtues just feel a bit miffed with regards to the amount of sheer umph the car actually has

I have a wrx ppp MY03 and have to agree, always seems something lacking, not the same throw you back in the seat my RB5 classic with ppp had. Seems to need another 50 bhp or so to do that.

Interesting you mention the RB5 as my mate has an RB5 which I think he bought off someone on this bulletin board so I'm unsure of spec but I guess its the 270'ish mark.
When on our way to the Tour 'o' Derbyshire going up the slip road onto the M1 I was flat out in 4th and he was going nowhere. So its seems like an STi8 with PPP has around the same actual get up and go as a classic running around 270 ish bhp.

In the maps for all the current performance packages we put in a protection for high intake temperatures. Above 40C, boost is reduced gradually so that the intercooler is given chance to cool before full boost is restored so that the engine has much less chance to det due to heat soak.
Any car that is run at an event like you have just been to WILL have reduced boost until the intake temp drops below 40C. This will mean that you probably won't get full boost until 3rd or maybe even 4th gear. This is not symptomatic of a problem, it's saving your engine.
All our performance testing is done whilst monitoring intake temps so that we know the car is running optimally. Remember, we have developed this for everyday road use, not the drag strip.

I personally didn't run the strip, I have just found that in everyday general use the straight line speed of the car is not quite what I expected from a 300hp car.
Simply comparing against my LT Escort Cossie, although now I have turbo boost on the day I need it, not the next day LOL!!!
I'll stick to the 'B' roads more bends the better then
