Your biggest incident

Not wanting to be morbid, but whats your biggest crash,
Cars seem to be so much safer now, My Toyota was amazingly tough, how do the Subaru's perform (not that I want to test it)
I had a rear tyre fail in an MR2 roadster on the Mway and ended up flipping it end over end with two or three rolls for good measure. Escaped without a scratch and even my neck was not too sore. The interior of the car had no intrusion even though it hit the bank at about 50mph.

But how did your cars do at protecting you all
(Obviously reasonably well, as you are all still typing)
Did you also get that questionaire from MIRA after your accidents for research into crash protection ?

I was in my works van, a Ford Escort, thank christ for the airbag, otherwise I would not be typing this so the police tell me, it saved my life

rolled at 85 in a pug 205gti.
back went, did not catch in time and was slippery.
car hit bank and sort of backlooped uphill, most strange dynamics.
needless to say, uninjured and rerighted car with friend.
little damage considering to car, a-pillars squashed and doors not fitting to good.
i think it clipped on the edges of the roof as it spun, cos by rights should have been mullered. french build quality after all.
36hrs later felt like i had a shoeing though!
fortunate end to an otherwise unpleasant experience.

Somersaulted and rolled a golf VR6 a fair few years back. I recon it's down to luck as to what you hit. Any one in the back of the car would have been dead as it was flat. I was traped in it upside down in a ditch and got out with out a scratch. Luck that's all it is. I have seen cars that have hit trees side on which have far less damage than the VR6 and the drivers have died in them.
Drive carefully
Best wishes

Got my backend clipped by a woman who sent me spinning into an oncoming 7.5tonne truck. Would have been ok apart from the fact that i was in a Ford Ka
And just to make matters worse, she wasnt prosecuted and the only punishment was to take a drivers awareness course

Rear-ended at 50mph whilst stationary waiting to turn right, then spun into on-comming traffic and hit on the front at 25-30mph
My Polo was rather dead to say the least - the rear impact was so hard the roof kinked and the passenger door would'nt open.
Still drove!! - once the drive shaft popped back in

Well, it does seem as if modern cars are better. I think my airbag saved me, but not in the normal way.
As it was a softtop and I'm 6'3" I crouched down in the seat and the airbag went off over my head and held it in place as I bounced around. The policeman said he has seen people die because their heads have been thrown against the side pillar (whish the STi had side airbags).
That spookey silence as the car became airborne and tipped upside down as the weight of the engine in the back came over still gives me a shiver.

Barrel rolled a VTS at 90 mph in to a tree. Survived that but car was a complete mess (caved in on one side). Pretty strong cars, but wouldn't want to experience that again.

Nothing to report in 20 years of driving.
However as a centre back seat passenger in a brand new MG Metro in 1983 I can vouch for them not being very protective, 1 broken neck later.

Back in my youth I lost control of my XR3 (not even an i) at about 85mph. Ended up going sideways down the road for about 25 feet, then slammed into a parked van full side on. After bouncing off the van I soared through the air and into a 6 ft brick wall, which was left with a 35 feet long hole in it. Upon impact with the wall every panel of glass burst (even the sunroof), and I was covered with flying bricks.
From the impact I suffered a split back (23 stitches), a black eye (dont know how !), a fractured breast plate (from the seat belt), numerous slight cuts and the worst case of whip lash ever.
Not Big & Not Clever.
A much slower driver now !!!

Just last week some young lady spun the back end of my scooby just coming off a roundabout, I spun 360 degrees before coming to a stop inches from a barrier both cars had minor damage...my back door was cruched but fortunetly the arch and sill were fine the young lady is now trying to blame ME for the accident when she hit the passenger side rear door????
darren
by the way side impact bar stopped any further damage in the accident.

I managed to put a Nissan Almeira into an oak tree sideways at about 50mph. My fault, was on a right hand bend, I drifted to the left, touched the grass verge, and the back end went into a big fish tail. Thought I caught it, swung the other way with no hope of getting it back, and remember watching the oak tree coming at me through my side window. Fortunately, there was enough forward motion left, so the tree hit the rear arch, right in line with the wheel. Spun the car into a ditch. I got out unmarked, but the car was a write off, much to my employers disgust, it being a company car!!!
The whole car was twisted, not a single panel met another like it should, rear axle tore away from the chassis, busted window, but no airbag action!
Live and learn, much more cautious nowadays!

Hit a parked car in my BT transit van. 2 days after xmas, 2 years ago. had to brake hard and hit ice, slid across the road and went through the back of a peugeot 306 and wrote it off. after i climbed out the passenger side cos i couldnt open the drivers side door, i heard a lady sobbing histerically...........it was her xmas present!! I was gutted, I had also put all 4 of the wheels of the car onto the pavement. still suffering with back problems to this day

I was on a private road having a play in my Mk1 Escort rally car, on a left hand corner I ran wide into the long grass, no problem I thought, keep it nailed, when BANG, stopped dead, I`d hit a set of Cambridge rollers hidden by the long grass. Bits of Ford everywhere. I dont think the rollers even moved.

Did a bit of a James Bond over a hump back bridge many years back, queue of stationary cars the other side.. oh sh*t, lock brakes up, impact still doing about 40mph !, it was an Opel Manta which luckily for me had a big old engine and large crumple zone (which did), girlfriend was pi**ed at me, but not as much as the owners of the 3 other cars I damaged..all people ok though which was the main thing. Certainly wouldn't recomend it though.
Always very wary of roads I can't see down now !.
