I've got a 53-plate STi, now over 6000 miles on it (lots of business travel since 1st Sept!). I'm thinking about putting a PPP and 18" rims on it, but given my 30,000+ miles a year I need to watch fuel consumption and comfort (maybe I should have thought of that before I bought it, but there again, maybe not :-) )!

I've noticed two things as the car has run in. Fuel consumption has improved markedly - from 220 miles before the light came on, to about 250 now for similar driving conditions.

Second thing has been the easing of the suspension - it's a lot less harsh than when the car was new. My brother (02-plate WRX) reckons he had the same thing with his.

I've also noticed how much it LOVES Optimax!! Nearly killed myself twice on my first tank...

Now I'm thinking about a few more extras: PPP and 18" rims. Two questions for those who've been down this path after they've put some miles on a 'vanilla' car:

What effect on the fuel consumption did the PPP have?
What effect on the ride quality did the 18" rims have? And on the handling?

All thoughts appreciated! Thanks for the fun reads in this Forum, too, guys.

Wink

Since Fitting PPP my fuel consumption has risen from 150 -170 till light comes on but I do enjoy myself
Most peeps have report simular findings, PPP has improved consumption. Probably due to not thraping it

18" will certainly aid the handling and lower the unsprung weight

IMHO

My fuel consumption dropped, I can manage 20 mpg if taking it easy!
The 18 inch rims dont feel a whole buncg different, but they do look good. The difference is the tyres, didnt like the standard Bridgestones and now have 18" F1's which feel great, even less tramlining than before, superb in the wet too.
Dont regret the PPP though, its makes a great car even better.

I get between 17-22mpg per tank on my 53 Sti with PPP. Thats with a fair bit of short runs and around town driving.
On the standard 17 inch rims so cannot tell you if that makes any difference.

...can't talk about PPP specifically ('cos I don't have it) - but on my MY02 my fuel consumption improved markedly went I went full decat.

Similar to PPP I suppose, if you remove restrictions from the exhaust I guess the engine is allowed to run more efficienty ??

cheers

I do about 30k a year. I Can't be scientific, but I think fuel is slightly better with PPP. Also, another way I think you'll find it improves because you'll be getting power earlier in band and therefore less on/off with the right foot.

... then again, once PPP'd you'll drive it more.

on the 18" ... don't know as i'm still on 17". I do know that swapping to F1 from Potenzas improves the feel and cuts the tramlining.

STI =
STI+PPP =

Get on with it ... Mark.
