Has anyone owned one of the following???

Had a mundano st200. Aparently had 202bhp, felt slow and lardy to me. Brakes were appauling too. Great V6 soundtrack, that's about it. As a long distance motorway cruiser, it was superb, but show it a B road and it was all over the shop! Not a patch on a scoob, which in turn isn't a patch on an evo. Flame suit on...

Just a quicky, and prob a silly question!!!!

Intergra Type R
Audi A4 2.8 Quattro
Celica GT4 (92 and 94)
Clio 172
BMW 328 Sport
Impreza Sport
Skyline GTS (mates got one)
Evo 2 or 3
Mondeo ST200
Saxo VTS
This is purerly based on speed down country lanes and B roads etc, not motor ways and not top speed or wet corners!!!!!
Big thanks in advance.

BMW 328 is a fantastic car (If you really aren't worried about the wet - but if you are concerned about the wet - don't go near it).
A4 3.0 (I'm sure the 2.8 would be similar) Quattro is a fantastic car and as fast as a Scoob if a lot less involving (plus it rolls a lot more due to it's over-weightness)!
can't help with the rest .

Having owned a Saxo VTS for 2 years which provided plenty of fun I think one could say their not that bad. Different driving style to the scoob being front wheel drive with lift off oversteer. French, yes, cheep, yes, light, yes, slow no. driving down A or B roads in the dry I doubt a VTS would be far behind a UK car.
#7
Your having a laugh,....VTS 120bhp- standard uk scoob 215bhp, thats if you can find a standard uk scoob.
A friend has a modded VTS and it's not even close to a standard scoob, never mind a modded one.

I had a sport with 17" wheels on and i have to say there was very little in the handling from that and the MY02 that i now have. Dont get me wrong, there was just no umph there due to it being normally aspirated but as in handling and corner taking it was every bit as tasty as the WRX.
Note that it had 17"s on it coz when the car had 16"s on it , it did role and feel a bit dodgyer than the turbo model.
Still a lovely drivers car and i would not hesitate getting another should my employer revoke my car allowance

The Evo is going to be the quickest and most fun out of your list. I'm not biased either, its plain to see.
There are some good ones about for little money. Not the most popular car either.

CLIO 172, i had one for 2 years before i got my scoob with PPP. they are quite quick cars but traction in the wet is virtually non-exsistant had a few scary moments on wet roundabouts, bends, etc. but in the dry they are very good cars and i had lots of fun with it

I have a 205 GTi with 162bhp, so using your theory I would be much slower than a new WRX with 225bhp then?
Funny how I kept up with one on the B roads near me on Sunday evening up to 120mph, and in the wet, and including many "twisties"
205 850kg, 162bhp
WRX 1200kg 225bhp
Saxo VTS is a good car, except for the small accelerator pedal.
#12
I've had a Mitsi Evo 1 ,very similar to the Evo 2 and the 3. It felt significantly faster than my old MY93 WRX. Both we completly stock. Very short gears and a tiny petrol tank but through the 'twisties' it seemed to have the edge.

Because power to weight means nothing?

I don't want to turn this into a scoob v saxo thread, and i don't think that a scoob is the best car on the road. I just think from my experience that the VTS isn't what it's cracked up to be.

Yup - driven a couple of 328's and although not slow - are not in the Scooby category.
Had a MK1 Clio 172 for 3 months (now owned by my Mum), and wife to be has a MK2 version!
Clio is very fast cross country and carries a lot of speed into corners, and is very stable, but my WRX 03 is much faster in a straight line and much more stable when you start reaching the limits. None of them have the combination of talents that a new Scooby does (especially with a few tweaks)!

Friend of mine has just bought a saxo vts whixch he took me out in at the weekend. **** me does it go round corners- I'm sure the yokis helped with this. Only 120bhp at the mo but does only weigh 900 odd kg. Apparently they are detuned for the road- they can go up to 170bhp fairly easily- not bad for 1.6l!
So then think 170bhp, 900kg. I don't think you can call that a different ballpark exactly.

Integra Type-R
Got one as a stopgap last year - still got it now!
Continues to get better and better the more I learn how to drive it.
Bomb proof build quality, wonderful VTEC engine noise over 6000rpm, slick gear change, instant throttle response and handling that should be impossible in a fwd car.
Go on - you know you want to!
tiggers.

I drive an Impreza SPORT and it is AUTOMATIC
Had a VTS pull up at the traffic lights next to me, and sat their reving the engine and rolling back and forward on the clutch, could tell he was going to gun it away from the lights. So I just pressed the POWER button on the auto gear stick and waited for the lights to change. The second they went to amber he was off, I just pressed the accelorator to the floor and let the car and gearbox do the rest, by the time I had reached 70 he was a good car length behind, at which point the road narrowed back down to one lane so I eased off back to the speed limit.
Now he probaly can not tell the difference between a turbo and a sport, so probably was thinking he did well to only end up one car length behind, but to be beaten by the grandad flat cap version of the sport He would not have lived that one down at school the next day.
Don't get me wrong I love having the auto box, and I reakon on the road it is faster than the manual, despite having a slower 0-60 time.
As for owning the sport in general, the handling in not quite that of a turbo when the sport is standard, but changing the wheels for 16" or bigger and geting eibachs and geometry done will bring it into the same ball park on the corners, but you will be left with some to make up on the straights. The difference is not as much as you think it might be.

When my last turbo was shot (smoking badly and spitting oil on flooring it) I had a saxo boy up my **** at the lights with his 2 zillion quid paint job that apparently adds 70bhp to the car, so i thought hmmmm and floored it, should have seen the **** all over the front of his car, oh how we laughed !!! and thats with a knackered turbo......

I owned an Integra Type-R, and it really is a great car.
Handling is awesome, and so usable. The noise is intoxicating, especially through tunnels ! I agree that they are NOT a car for long journeys, but 190bhp from a 1800 normally aspirated 4-pot !
I read a review that said and integra type-r gives you 80% of an NSX peformance for less than half the price.
A true classic.

Also had a ITR, alot of car for the money. And never had one single problem with it, very robust. Best thing about it was the sound of the VTEC and rapid handling responce, also had great stearing feedback from the road, I did look at adding a jackson super-charger for more added performance especially at the lower-mid range where I felt it lacked but never got round to it, hit some nice speeds with it though top end!
However moved to an impreza's must be 3 years now and in a whole I have never really looked back since the impreza gave me what I wanted, suppose its each to their own.
verdict, the teggy R a top car for its money and not many of them on the road.

just one question why no mention of a nissan 300zx just sold mine to by a scooby and to be honest the 300zx would **** all over it in the dry. but in the wet i would have to be nuts to try a stay close to any scooby just a thought

Had a mondeo st200 which i enjoyed every minute of, obviously not as quick as the scooby but loved the way it handled especially when i stuck 18s on. Lovely sounding motor especially when i got a custom stainless steel zorst put on combined with a viper kit. You can pick these motors up cheap nowadays and they have all the toys and i think they have got some of the most comfortable recaros around

I had a little tussle with a MY02 Sti in my Clio, and although I could keep up (and if not following, maybe go faster) round the corners, I was completely blown away accelerating out of bends.
They are completely different to drive (clio very nimble, WRX seems to have more momentum), both completely different engines.... and the choice really depends on how you like to drive.
If you want the best of both of these and are not too bothered by image, get a Pulsar GTi-R.... nice short nimble car with plenty of power! (great car if they were not so old and ugly!)

I've owned and driven a lot of fast cars including Evo's, Skylines, Cossies etc etc.
The Skyline i've got at the moment (R33 GTS-T) wouldn't stand a chance against a WRX a-b. The Evo was an Evo II and about the same as a WRX in standard form a-b only with better fuel economy.
Best of all is the Honda Prelude 2.2i VTEC with the 4ws . This is by far the best car i've owned and will leave a WRX (in standard form) for dead a-b. These Ludes really are more fun to drive in my opinion.

Saxo vts can be very quick and can go round corners very well, you just havent got the straight line speed of a scooby but theyre like an old mini, awesome awesome fun to be had at well below the speed limit, which is something i find is lacking in the scooby.
IntegraTypeR i would love to drive but havent had the chance yet, have sat in one and they feel very focused.
Ive driven a r33 gts skyline, and while underpowered in standard trim, they feel very much like a 328 bmw. Enough for the road to go quickly, but also sublime enough to cruise. When tuned they can be very quick, RWD and less weight then a newage scooby (1370ish iirc) plus tall gearing (3rd hits 105 iirc) means theyre very fast on an A-road. On a bumpy b-road though i found it too long and skittish, but this could have been the car. I wouldnt drive it fast in the wet.
i want to have a go at an elise or an MR2 mk3 or MR2 turbo becuase id think id like the challenge of a mid-rear car with short wheelbase
