03WRX seatbelt alarm - can I disable it?

Drives me nuts, but drives the GF even more nuts and she always gives me grief for not putting my belt on before driving off.
I'd love to turn the thing off permanently, but don't know how.

My boss had this on his Cougar - it was operated by microswitch in the belt receptacle. This switch was closed when the belt was in so he cut the wires and soldered them together meaning the car though he had it plugged in 24/7.
A normally open conenction would be easier, just cut the wires.
Take the receptacle apart and see what you find.
you could always super glue the switch in the "belted up" position

Before you do anything, just check that it isn't linked to anything other than the indicator on the dash. it *might* be in some way linked to the other supplementary restraint stuff?

Check under the seat where you'll find the connectors. Trace which one goes to the seat belt and dis-connect.
Worked for me.
Regards from another idiot who doesn't wear one all the time

Obi - then you find the airbag doesn't fire ........ and you're in a whole world of hell!
As Chiark says - might be linked?

Its the most annoying thing on the MY03 - This is what I did. The offending small cream box is positioned just above the acellerator pedal, 1 nut releases it (dont drop it behind the trim!) - theres loads of wires to it. I unplugged the wiring, opened it up and removed the circuit board, theres a piezo buzzer on it soldered with 2 prongs you will need a soldering iron to desolder the piezo. Melt the solder on the 2 prongs one at a time whilst gently levering the piezo and it will come off. Then just put the circuit board back in - I put the piezo back in upside down with the prongs away from anything they could short circuit and put a small piece of padding in s it dosent rattle (this last bit just so I dont lose the piezo).
The removal of the piezo shouldnt have any effect on the operation of anything else, its a bit like a car alarm that flashes the lights - remove the connection to the lights and the alarm still works and sends the flashing light output even though they are not connected.
I dont proffess to be an expert, this is just how I did it there may be a better way to do this, as an electronics technician (amongst other things) I was comfortable with this solution. No airbags went off (!) and the red warning light still works.

anyone daft enough to not be wearing their seatbelt probably won't give a toss about wether their airbags will deploy properly
Why has this thread not been locked for stupidity
Just belt up will ya!!

Rusty, what if you are simply moving the car around the driveway, perhaps to garage it, or let another car out?
There are plenty of scenarios where I am moving my car around without actually being on a public road, therefore no need to wear a seatbelt.
I agree that folk should belt up on the road, but there are plenty of reasons for wanting the alarm silenced without necessarily being irresponsible non-seatbelt wearers!
What if you have a 4 point harness like Gadget Daz and don't use the factory seatbelt catch?

Can't the seat belt be plugged in via a route behind the seat rather than in front of it over (or even under) the driver?
Point taken Talizman none of that was explained prior

Thanks Wskibuoy I might give it a go, although I'm a bit worried that I'll knacker the circuit board and then nothing will work.
Rusty Festa - thanks for the pointless comment. FYI I always wear a seat belt when driving on public roads (duh!), but where I live I need to drive up a track and then open a gate to leave the property. Hence not wearing a seatbelt and wanting to shut the damn alarm up.

Well you should have said that in the first place instead of making it look like you were bragging you don't wear a seatbelt on the public highway

scoobieblue....
Thats good and well if you don't wear a seat-belt, as you won't have a need for the clip.
Personally, I do wear a seatbelt, but would still like the alarm gone for times when I'm moving the car around, without actually driving on the road.

Its not that difficult and nothing has packed up un mine doing it this way seemed to me to be the least interference to the car systems and the red warning light still works so thats still in yer face when youre actually driving rather than manouvering from one parking space to another etc. Im all for the warning but theres no need for that noise - the wifes super sensible Honda Civic only has a red warning light - no buzzer as standard.
I have posted this a few times and havent seen a reply with a better idea but havent had anyone else come back to say they have tried it either!
