Had some unwanted visitors last night. Broke in thru the kitchen window, wandered around the house till they found my keys, wallet and phone then buggered off in my STI8.

Phoned trackstar @8pm when I discovered the theft. The guy on the end of the phone was very switched on, and found the car as he spoke to me. He rang the plods, who had the car recoverd by 10.00.

I live in Southport, needless to say the c`ar was found in Toxteth, one of the less affluent areas of Liverpool.

They had managed to ruin 3 18" prodrive alloys and 2 almost new Michelin Pilot tyres. Star drivers.

Anyway, its back and waiting for the new wheels, tyres and new lock set to arrive. I've spent all day on the phone sorting the mess out. What a load of crap. If they needed a lift to Liverpool, all they had to do was ask - I would even given them a coupla hundred £ to help them buy moe drugs!

*****.

Anyway, **** them. I'm not selling it. I'm just pi$$ed off that for the 1st time ever I forgot to take the keys to bed with me.

I wish they had torched it, at least I would have got a new one instead of driving round in a lurvley Fiesta courtesy car.

Actually, I am insured with Liverpool (LOL) Victoria and they have been so good and switched on. Mind you, it's not over yet....

This is not a criticism but I have never understood why people in this day and age, spend 10's of thousands on their cars and don't spend a grand or so and have a house alarm fitted.

Must admit, I don't see "what's in it for us" with a Tracker/Trackstar/its ilk.

Car is stolen and recovered damaged. You claim on your insurance and lose your NCB.

Car is stolen and not recovered. You claim on your insurance and lose your NCB.

Clearly the first situation is preferable for the insurance company, as they don't have to pay out as much. But it's no better for the punter (in fact, you could argue it's worse).

well i would rather have it back if it is just minor damage most people get atached to their cars

they should do something about the NCB though

if you crash and the insurance repair it you still loose NCB

from what i have seen trackers dont even reduce the premium that much

hey up luddite dave here sorry to hear someone nicked your car, maybe if you'd had a clifford blackjax installed they would have only got a few hundred yards away if that,at least you would possibly get the car back in better condition than you have now.

Phoned trackstar @8pm when I discovered the theft
I was under the impression that the RAC Trackstar fitted to the STI's was an "active" tracker which activates as soon as the car moves without the key fob transmitter being in close proximity to the sensor in the car????

At least, thats what I was told when I collected mine....

Otherwise, what if it were a day, or two, or three before you discovered your car gone..... It could be in another country by that time, or stripped into bits, or torched! Lot of good the tracker is in those circumstances if it requires you to notify THEM of the theft!

They took the keys so the RAC Trackstar thought it was a normal journey. The RAC Trackstar will self alert if the car moves without the engine going ie: towed away or put into trailer.

could always get hold of an old/unused transponder/clicky door open thingy, which will mean you`ll have 3 transponder things (including your 2 originals). Take the battery`s out of the newly acquired one and out of one of the originals and leave these downstairs with 1 set of your keys. If anyone busts in and swipes the transponders/key they`ll be able to open the car but not disable the alarm/immobiliser. They might get so pi$$ed off with not getting the car going they either pi$$ off, or come looking for you, at which point you explain the batteries must be dead and there`s nowt you can do about it.
Of course, you might take a beating, or worse, but then its just a thought.

Wonder if that makes sense? goin to bed

Well shocked at that statement m8, u mean u value ur car over ur wife & family (if u have one)break into my home and you won't have to search far for my keys, the quicker there out the house the less violent they will be (hopefully) as they would have got what they want.

Sorry to hear it, but agree with Dazza.

All our keys are left downstairs, they are only cars after all.

if you lot slept like me i wouldn't wake up even if they were in my room shooting at me..

leave keys downstairs anyway..its just a car

also they will always have the element of surprise and whilst your just waking up from a sleep you wont be fully alert and your senses are still kicking in..

classic ambush scenario...
