Clicky

I believe that some early STi's did not have the red crackle finish on the inlet manifold.

As for the intercooler and strut brace, I can't explain them.

It certainly has most of the STI bits to make you think its genuine. (plaque, seats, side skirts, rear clusters etc) The WRX Type R has no side skirts IIRC.

Only thing is, I wasn't sure if there was a V Ltd on the STI 3?

Strange....

it could of been late registered m8 putting it on the r plate. there are a few clasics on 51 reg's and that should make them bugeye's heaven forbid.

perhaps the car has had a replacement engine at some time and it came with turbo, intercooler etc.

I have a Type R V3 and it is on an R Plate. I am not aware of any v-ltd edition for this version.

Mine has the red inlet manifolds, STi Strut brace and STi intercooler.

I was always led to believe you can't have DCCD and ABS on the same car. I am no mechanic though!!

Dont know if this helps!!

Cheers

This car is not what the seller claims it to be, this much is clear. All you have to do is look at the pictures.

First, and most obviously, the underbonnet pictures show it has ABS and no I/C water spray and so clearly isn't a Type R.

It doesn't have a red top engine either, which an STi of this age should have (it was only the V1's that didn't have the coloured manifold). While it is theoretically possible that the red crackle finish has been removed (or the manifold changed for some reason), it remains unlikely that this is an STi engine.

The logo on the seats, and the V-limited badge in the centre console mentions that Subaru were manufacturers champions in 1995, '96 and '97. This being the case, these items can't possibly have come out of a '97MY car, as these went into production in late '96, and went out of production in early to mid'97, obviously enough, before the '97 championship had been won. Thus, if these seats and badge genuinely belong in this car, it's most likely to be an MY98.

The seller also claims it is twin turbo, which if nothing else shows him/her to be an *rse/ignorant/stupid/a bare-faced liar.

It has an STi version 5 rear aerofoil, something that must be an aftermarket addition given the car's age and the fact that it is obviously not an MY99.

Given the evidence in the photographs, it is clearly not an STi version 3 Type R as advertised. There are only a couple of possibilities regarding the true type and specification of this car:

1) It is a ringer/bitsa, possibly assembled from a couple of crashed cars.

2) Looking at the list of applied model codes in the SIDC FAQ, if this car is genuine, the only thing it is likely to be is an MY98 "WRX RA V-Limited 2 door", with an applied model code of GC8E27D.

Given the risk of it being (1), I'd strongly suggest anyone contemplating bidding for it email the seller and ask him/her to provide the applied model code.

Heh heh. The only thing I'm not sure about is whether these two door "WRX RA"'s should have I/C water spray. If they are supposed to have it, then this car obviously isn't one.

I thought Type RA denoted a 4 door car, while Type R was a 2 door? Therefore it can't be an RA?

Not according to the SIDC FAQ. It appears that there were two door WRX Type RA V-Limiteds produced in MY98, 99 and 00.

Question

Engine bay looks like a staright forward MY97/98 WRX.
Std I/c with remote DV, no strut brace, ABS, unpainted manifold.
Interior looks like its been removed and swapped from a writeoff?

Engines will soon say

He sent me this engine code: GC8-068148
That's not an engine code, not an engine number, nor even a chassis/VIN number.

The plot thickens. Either the vendor is a total clueless *rse, or he thinks potential buyers are...
