i was going down an open 60 road last night in my mark 2 mauritus blue VTS, now this is a fast vts let me tell you i have raced my chum in his dads MX5 and i beat him every time off the lights when the VTS comes on cam. Anyway, my VTS is nearly standard, i think it is one of the "lucky" 130 BHP models, i have a K&N 57i induction kit and a magnex back box so im sure its pushing out another 8 bhp at least.
as i am going along at about 65 i see a subaru imprezza WRX old shape come up in my rear view mirror. Feeling a little bit fruity as i had just sealed a deal earlier that day in my Kitchen Sales job i decided i would have a quick race A blip on the throttle and the chap behind gave chase. all the way upto the ton mark he stuck with me but could'nt get past.
We got to some traffic lights coming into my town, but it was still a 60 so we lined up next to each other on the red light. When it went green we both floored it. Even with his AWD becuase of the standing water we both sturggled to get grip and while he was ahead i quickly got upto his rear bumper as the roar of my K&N kicked in. I went into the fast lane and over took him around 70 and the look on his face was priceless!
These VTS's are nippy little buggers aren't they.
CLASSIC

The story was going well and was relatively believeable until we got to the 'keeping with an Impreza in the wet off the line' and 'overtaking at 70mph' parts
For what its worth (and I know that isn't a lot) my standard VTS kept up no problem with a number of classics and new age impreza's during a run in the country with some of the worst rain I've seen in a while. They are also not far behind WRX (UK's) from a rolling start but there is no danger in a million years that a K&N VTS is passing or even creeping up on an Impreza. Not even mines or Craggy's could manage that and they are regarded as the two fastest standard vts's ever built
Edited to qualify 'kept up' - it wasn't a hell for leather race just some SN's making brisk progress. They could have probably left me if they had wanted too as the roads were very wet and it was very tight. That said, the saxo stayed on the road.....and Impreza did not

LMAO @ this....
I mean, whats the difference to 60 mph?
Circa 3 seconds IIRC? (280 bhp WRX Vs 120 bhp VTS)

I think he's telling the truth. Most scoob drivers dont know how to get the best out of em anyway

Saxo boy,
he was quoted as saying
so, even if its the most "ancient" of WRX's, its 240 bhp (saloon) and if it was a newer one, yet still circa 7-8 years old, its 280 bhp.
These cars typically hit 60 in around 5 seconds.
I have owned 2 Saxo VTS's and the 0-60 time of 7.2 seconds is well optimistic.
Either way, we are still talking about almost 3 seconds of a difference. A very long time in terms of 0-60 dash!

Btw, the most infamous saxosportsclub thread ever was the one where some guy claimed him supercharged VTR (about 200bhp) was overtaking a 911 turbo on full chat. ROTLFMAO

Are you talking to me
If so then 'yes' I had one and I thought it was a brilliant car. I'd probably stick my neck out and say everything accounted for (running costs, purchase costs, etc) its £££ for £££ a better car than ANY impreza. But that said the Clio cup has moved the game on and is defo worth the extra wonga over a VTS and has to be the undisputed best performance car per £££ at the moment IMHO The amount my scooby has cost me I could have kept my VTS, bought a second older one, s/c it, stripped it out and used it on track and at weekends where it would be faster than an Impreza anyway.........ah hindsight Mind you, I've loved the scooby experience and have a taste in my mouth for a much better Impreza than what I have now. One day........one day

There is a degree of truth in that usually and I must admit now the scooby is standard I'm never 100% sure of the ideal gearchange point. BUT, you'd have to be the p!shest of p!sh drivers to get beaten off the line by a Saxo in the wet. LOL. That's hang your head in shame stuff!
