Where do I stand???

Had my 7.5k service yesterday and aircon installed by Adams in Aylesbury. Happy as a sandboy as I now had aircon installed plus my first glimpse of a P1.
Anyway wifey gives me a call saying did I scrape the top of the bumper, huh, no.
Anyway she'd noticed that the tonneau cover had been pulled back(we never pull it back, we like to everyone to see what's in our boot ie nothing valuable except a buggy and some nappies). So it appears that someone had gone in the boot, to do what??? And got the buggy out and caught it on the bumper and hey 3x inch (gauge, spelling??).
I phoned Adams, bring it in sir and we'll see??
So where do I stand, I gave it a wash the day before so there were def. no marks beforehand.
Why do they need to go in the boot??
ps. This is the first time I've used them as they are my closest dealer.

No they didn't remove the wheels(anyway the key is always left in the scooby handbook, take note markus).
Do they check the pressure of the tyres including the spare(I think mine is a get your home jobby, can't say I ever checked)???

Even if they did check tyres surely they'd jack the car up and give them a spin round and not remove them unless there were signs that the tracking was out and worn parts but then they would of told the owner i think.

I had a similar problem when I took my old Renault 19 16v in for a service.
When I got the car back it had a huge dent in the front wing.
I contacted the dealer who said it must have been done by one of their customers in the car park and therefore wasn't their problem.
After speaking to the AA legal advice line, I wrote to the service manager explaining that I would start legal action if the problem was not corrected.
Next day, a very apologetic phone call, I was asked to bring the car in and hey presto, one new wing free of charge.

I also now in a bit of a dilemma, I'm going to Copenhagen on Monday for the week. The main reason I decided to drive was a. the Autobahn's, b. I was going to see some friends in Bremen. c. Nice drive back using the back routes with friend in tow, he drives an M3.
But I now have the feeling if I take the scoob and put 2k miles on the clock the dealer will point blank refuse to acknowledge that this was his doing.
So it looks like I'll have to take the sh!te Audi/work car. All flights are booked, I'm buggered.

Can I ask how much it cost to get the Aircon installed?
I've been toying with the idea for some time know, and as we are know in summer, MY98 is getting a biot on the warm side.
Thanks

Look at it this way, they want to keep you as a customer. And for them to repair/replace/respray the bumper will not cost a lot. And this sort of thing happens all the time at garages, so they'll have a policy for dealing with it.
I would do the following:
1 Contact the service manager first - he/she may well agree to look at it straight away, might cause the problem to disappear immediately.
2 If that doesn't work, send a letter with a photo of the damage to the dealer principal. Give them a chance to sort it out.
3 If that doesn't work, a solicitor's letter to the dealer principal, with a copy to IM, should do the trick.
I've found that step 1 usually works, and step 2 has only been needed once. Never needed to resort to stage 3.

I think you need to give Adams a chance to see what they say. The fact that you have notified them of the scratch shouldnt stop you using the car to Holland.
Its a difficult one to prove. Ive had it happen at a dealers before.
I used Adams since their birth and bought 3 cars from them, might have been my P1 you saw there. Ive not had amy problems at all and would recommend them.

I have contacted them, so far they have been very reasonable and have offered to pick the car up from my home(Bicester)as we have two kids and my wife can do without the hassle .
So I'm impressed so far, as I say they are my local dealer so I will be using them all the time.
No chance of a ride in the P1, suggested to the missus we buy one, all I got was the look.

interesting one. i get mine serviced at heritage in leicester and they always ask me to do a walk-around before they take it in so that any dinks etc are spotted first and noted before they take 'possession' of it.
ask your boys to do the same (even if that's bolt the stable door after the horse has done a runner advice).
anyone else using heritage, ask for fazal in the service dept. to do it for you.

Same thing happened to someone I know. Picked up his Subaru to find a dent in it. The Subaru dealer inspected the car before they started the service and found no dents. So when the manager checked the log they straight away owned up to the fact that it must have been them.
Ask them if they carried out this inspection??
Stick to your guns. Can't take my STI to Subaru so used a well known third party company who despite a number of mess ups also ripped the inside of the door. I could not prove it sadly.
But main dealers are far better. I would also check to see how many miles were put on it.
good luck. enjoy the autobahns (and take the Scooby or your ruin your holiday!!!)

Just wanted to put the record straight, Adams picked the car up, and resprayed the rear bumper. No fuss made what so ever. So I'm a happy man again.
Shall continue to use Adams as Service Manager very helpful and wanted to keep all parties happy.
Can recommend the Autobahns. Quick, no traffic jams, cheap petrol, roughly 30 squids to fill her up and 98 ron to boot, the scoob loved it.
