Question

Any schemes running this year where cash is paid for info resulting in a conviction for drink-driving over the festive period?

I know where there's a veritable goldmine and I quite fancy some coilovers

Not heard of any rewards being offered this year, just know that Derbyshire police have a dedicated hotline for shopping them.
But why do they need us to shop them???, because their too busy catching us with the speed camera's.

Trouble is with the police's response times to call outs i would have thought that anyone you shop will be sober by the time the police catch up with them.

I would have thought all the police need to do is sit outside any pub/bar and they could catch plenty of drink drivers, the car parks are always full and i'm sure they don't all drink fruit juice.
Its about time the pubs/bars reduced the price of soft drinks to encourage people to not drink drive.

And I'd strongly agree with the "fruit juice" post. When I drive, it REALLY p*sses me off to pay nearly £3 for a pint of pop!

why? Pubs are businesses and only make a profit, cover running costs by charging for the products they sell above what it costs them.

You are paying for the use of the premisses, the staffing and the raw materials, you cant expect to pay the same as buying your pop at the supermarket.

I bet you want paying for the work you do.

dont think youve quite got the idea behind the concept there sully!

I hate paying pub prices, way over the top. When you can buy a 4 pack of beer for the price of one and a half pints in a pub, thats not business, thats extortion!
Funnily enough, living up north seems dearer than down south in this instance, as there is probably more competition for landlords from people buying there booze abroad cheeply.
Discuss?

But surely the reward is enough to buy myself a fake driving license? Thus rendering the ban ineffective! And as long as there is enough left to pay the fine, i'm laughing

Question

Why cash 4 grass, surely these people should be caught regardless, plus their part of the reason our insurance policies increase.

My thoughts

Also own fault crashes - hospitals can claim back the cost of treatment from the guilty drivers insurance. If a drivers convicted of driving, chop his pint holding hand off. A two hits and your out type scenario!

Unhappy

I was earning a decent wage, so I bought the car I had always wanted, a Subaru Impreza (UK MY00 in Deep Blue Mica). I took my brand new scooby home in May 2000 and used to stare at it, parked outside my flat (sad b*stard, I know!). It looked like the dogs bollox...

...until some p*ssed f*cker smashed into the back of it two months after I'd bought it. He was five times over the limit and hit seven other cars as well as mine. He was arrested by the police and got a 12 month suspended sentence. To this day, I have not received a penny from him.

I paid for the £2,000 worth of damage he caused and I lost my no-claims bonus. I have never caused an accident in 13 years of driving, but I have been paying a stupid insurance premium because of this f*cker for the last three years.

All this because he decided to get tanked up and drive home. It's even more ridiculous because he actually lives in London and has public transport as another option.

Don't expect any sympathy from me - I will nail drink-drivers for nothing...

Mark.

I think the anger of cost of soft drinks in pubs, is that most stuff like coke, lemonade etc, is just concentrate with carbonated water added in...

ie, cost of the stuff is low, and it has no tax/duty on it. So, if a G&T or half-pint is £1.50, why should a coke be £1.50.

75p might be more reasonable.

Saying that, I can't stand soft drink after soft drink in a pub. Get too high on sugar or caffeine!

can agree with businesses making a profit etc etc on soft drinks. But, lets have some sort of reality check here, some soft drinks cost more than pints of beer and spirits etc

Granted you can buy cheap soft drinks at a supermarket that make pub prices seem expensive, but the pubs are often big chains the same as supermarkets and therefore utilise bulk discounting, so why the profiteering? Nobody can honestly state on here that there isnt a massive mark up on soft drinks in pubs, even when all costs are considered.

Its a bit sad when u can buy 2 pints of official coke in a supermarket against a pint of flat ****e in a pub that costs twice as much.

No tax on, plus the mark up on it is unreal. One carton or concentrate make about 25liters i think and are cheep. Just because they are running a buisness doesn't mean they should just fleece you.

There is a auzzie pub in glasgow that gives free fizzy drinks when you buy 4 others to help stop drink driving.

Good on them!

Off topic I know, but with the ammount of speed cameras about how can you expect anything less than a good amount of 'police hating' posts on forums about cars.

As for police assumptions i know all about that. I used to get pulled over weekly when i had a (perfectly legal)citroen AX, right up until the very day i sold it. Since then I have never been pulled over despit having cars with over triple the power.

erm.... not that I want pulled over weekly that is, it's very annoying and a total abuse of human rights.

i forced a drink driver off the road on my way home from work 8 months ago and then i stole his keys and locked myself in my car as he was kicking off with me and kicking my car so rang 999 told them the score and that i was blocking the road at a major set of lights, took the police 34minutes to turn up(police station is 3 minutes away).then they turned up and arrested the guy, turns out he was an iraqi as well then i had to go to the police station to give a statement which took another 2 hours, when this was done the officer said i would get a reward from the government as the driver was 5 times over the limit and nothing heard since then no thankyou letter and no reward nothing

so my moral of this story is if you find a drink driver pull him over get his keys and kick the **** out of them throw his keys away then ring the police and go home.

coppers get paid we dont

Drink at a Walkabout. Soft drinks are free for drivers. Several other local pubs have adopted this also.

personaly LETTING THE POLICE DO THERE JOB as you put it is a ******* joke, they do nothing at all.....nothing...two coppers riding round in an Astra do not make a deterant, jesus if it stops one person being killed this christmas time ( or any other time ) then its worth some drunk ***** kicking in the side of my car.

its simple maths you fcukwit

YOU + DRINK = NO CAR

The police are more happy pulling kids over and generaly casuing miss trust and un ease in the comunity...they need to remember they only inforce the law, they cant make up new ones on the spot to suit the situation.
There is a EX police orificer who stands on the side of the main road near me with a "community Speed Gun"..he has NO powers at all, no law backing him, but in hour local paper he is stating that he will go out of his way to issue "offical" tickets...how the **** is he gonna do that........simple he cant...total waste of money and resources, would have been more usefull issuing tear gas to disperse the little ****s that go out for a "pint and a fight"..Mr Smiths being a perfect oppertunity to test it

all the best people

have a great Christmas

Coke concentrate is designed for a 10:1 mix, and a large McDonald's Coke costs about 4p (including the cup and lid), so the syrup costs probably 2 p.
