wheres the thread that was on here a while ago about the guy that took the spec-c on track with ...i think it was a porker of some sorts and some other awesome car and the scoob kept up with them? that would shut them all up

My mate Mouse (M18use) has got an EVO 6 GSR and obviously it's has got AYC. I've driven it loads of times and I really don't like the car or the AYC. It give the impression that everythings under control, but you can't feel the road through the car. I can see how people can smash them up. He also got an RB5 WR and so have I. We both think the EVO is pants
We both have coilovers, droplinks, bumpsteer, anti roll bars, etc but think the scooby feels much better around the bends. Shame it hasn't got more power.
A Spec C or whatever they are called must be awesome to drive to be honest
Phill
Think the Scooby wins hands down.

They've got a point though haven't they?
An STI4/5/6 is a LOT better as a general performance car than the std UK offering of the time. Yet you never saw those in the EVO group tests, unless it was an import thing. Seemed they were scared of being un-pc and upsetting IM.
Now they're using an import - and a tuned one at that - to include in comparisons to other standard cars. Theres no logic apart from (being cynical ) whoever pays more advertising gets more coverage. Maybe.
No doubt the Spec C is a cracking car but a bit of continuity or less fickleness would be expected.....

Craig - EVO generally test new cars, and the mag wasn't around when the Sti 4/5 were around - and by the time the 6 had come it was the last of the line. Why would they be worried about upsetting IM - car manufacturers spend a lot of time , money and effort in maintaining 'positive' relations with car mags. As for advertising - you advertise where you can reach your target audience most effectively - and for performance cars EVO is a no-brainer.

I know of someone who stacked an EVO VI TME. He reckoned that AYC was good but provided no driver feedback about how close the car was to the limit. He said when you reach that limit, the car looses it BIG TIME and no amount of electronic gadgetry can bring it back. You will never know when that point is coming as the electronics protect you from it.He lost it comming out of a roundabout but WAS NOT going mad at the time although the road was wet.
Gotta say, its nice to know I get round a corner quickly because of my own skill rather than that of the Super Nintendo under the bonnet. Same argument goes for R34 GTR V-Spec. How good is the driver in one of these "Assisted" cars?

I can't believe some of the comments on here or on their site!!
It's only a car, you don't have to choose sides!!!
IMHO the Spec C sounds like a great car, *BUT* it looks like a WRX with STI fog covers. It will be more expensive/difficult to insure as it is a Japanese import and there is no dealer support network.
Yes the car reviewed is quick, but it has been modified! Full de-cat and ECU modifications.
The current range of Evo's available from a UK dealer will have a warranty, and I'm sure if that is not important to you, you can get a full de-cat and ECU modifications and it will give the Spec C a run for it's money!
I have had Subaru's, but I would like an Evo next!
Given a choice between a Spec C and an FQ-300, I would still get the Evo!!!
Why??? Other than insurance and warranty..... well Subarus are getting a bit common, they have a bit of an image problem and I hate gold wheels!!

The EVO is certainly the better car, performance and handling wise IMHO
As others have mentioned here with the Subaru I get feedback "If you go much faster you won't make it" and then "OH, F**K were going to die" but the EVO is always "Go faster".... "Go faster"..."go faster" !!!!! but you only need bad advice like that once hence my personal choice was a Subaru

Do you mean feedback or do you mean understeer???
Feeback is poor as standard, but changing the suspension (dampers and springs), drop links, strut braces, lower braces, bumpsteer modification/geometery settings, will improve the feedback.

I know it's a fine line but the Spec-C you can buy from Iain Litchfield is like buying a "new" car. Off the top of my head the Spec-C comes with the standard exhaust and a remap for UK fuel. In this guise it is something like 320bhp IIRC but you can also buy one with the "Performance Kit" or whatever Iain is calling it, pre-fitted which consists of the Milltek Exhaust (including sports cat) and remap which is something like 335bhp (and a high torque figure). I think this car also comes with a warranty so like I said, it *is* like buying a new car, which makes it fair to test up against other new cars?
Also, IIRC, EVO started in 1998 so they had the opportunity to test the STi4/5 and 6 but I suspect the problem was that IM don't supply these as new cars so they couldn't easily get hold of them. I do seem to remember EVO testing an STi4 or 5 Type-R at one point though.

Don't you think it's all getting a bit "Top-Trumps-in-the-playground"?? Bit like "my car's better than yours"
I think both versions of the cars a good at what they do. If everybody were the same and liked just one, would life, the world and the universe be boring !!

Andy,
Feedback, is not understeer it is "Feel" you get "through the seat of the your pants" to the Degree of grip your tyres & car has on the road
I get, I'm not odd or alone, all drivers do feedback through the car to available grip, the interpritation of this feedback allows you to "Judge" the speeds of corners.
If you can't get feedback from your car when do you now it's at it's limit ?????? when it's in the hedge !!! the Scoob progressively tells you your getting close and you can "Build up to it's limit the EVO just says "go faster" and it is faster around the corners but never sure at what piont it was going to leave the rails

no point in arguing over it
it would apear that the subaru is now a better car then the evo, im sure that this will change in a year or 2 and then change back and so on and so on
evos and scoobys compete against each other, when one company gets outdone they ovb have to swing the balance back over and so forth
who cares, id have either of them, there both good cars
