MPG improvement in cold weather?
#1
Mine is suddenly doing 22/23 mpg from 18/19 mpg when it was warmer and it feels quicker (obviously with the colder air feeding the intercooler).
Has anybody else noticed an improvement in their MPG in this colder weather?

Blimey - you mean they are worse than this in the summer?
I have only just got mine - I am still reeling from the shock fuel economy compared to a super mini hot hatch - in my old pug I used to get the euro average figure all the time... the scoob is somwhere around 27 which is a fair way short of the euro average figure for an MY03 car.

Perhaps the damp roads mean the right foot isn't quite as hard on the gas.
Mattm - Welcome to Scooby fuel consumption. Hits the pocket particularly hard if you are using Optimax.

Matt me too, was expecting 31 - 32 as I do lots of Motorway cruising. I'm spending £100 - £150 more than before on fuel - ouch!
i've always go the combiuned MPG at least due to the type of driving i do for work 1k/week on all my other motors!
Have decided the scooby is really a weekend toy - a good one at that though but I'm faced with a dilema cos \i really need a more economical car for work.

Why oh why do we always get these posts.... You have just purchased a 225 bhp Turbo'd car that weighs over 1300 kg and is as aerodynamic as a brick!! What did you expect... These official fuel consumption figures are usually pretty dodgy, they are not produced in the real world and somewhere between urban to combined is normally about right.... I have an MY02 and couldn't give a to$$ about how much I burn (although I must admit I do keep track of it) because of the grin factor. Isn't that why we bought these cars. Look on the brightside you could have bought an EVO and they are a lot worse for fuel. The EVO8 was the 9th most uneconomical car released in 2003 after Ferraris etc. according to AutoExpress...

Use mine every day and I will cover approx. 30,000 miles this year. Average fuel consumption around 27mpg (and no I don't drive it like a *****!)
Had a VW Bora PD TDI before, it did 50+ MPG. Do I care? ... NO.
I knew what the Scooby would be like before I got it.
Would I go back to the oil burner? ... NO
Very very happy thank you very much. Can't understand how people buy a Scooby then start winging about the running costs!

I've got a MY01 UK300 PPP and in the summer normally get 280 miles to a tank but in the winter it does drop to an average of around 250 to a tank .... BUT it does feel like it has an extra 10% bhp when its cold
Scoobs are not that bad on fuel when you hear of Mini Cooper S's dipping into single figures on a spirited drive ... I think the fuel consumption is good for the level of performance you get, especially on the MY03 cars ....
Cheers
Phil

hmmmm, wasn't whinging, just observing that it doesnt even do the euro average... but if I was really worried about economy I would have bought a A3 Tdi Quattro... nuff said.
In every other respect it has exceeded my expectations - ride quality, noise (both driven hard and cruising on the motorway), build quality (yes I know, but I am used to french cars)... even the standard fit stereo, bad as it is is better than I expected...

I'm getting less in my 03 PPP, it must be the fact that it feels faster and that makes me want to go quickly all the time.
160 miles so far and below quarter of a tank left.
