I always start at the dvla website
www.dvla-som.co.uk
I was looking recently and the plates there start at £250 including transfer fees and VAT. The prices at newreg start at £244 but exclude transfer fees and VAT.
going by the pattern plate you have been offered they have got k555 rep, s555rep or t555 rep for £250... therefore I dont think £250 is expensive, its just not terribly cheap.
There might be plates at dvla that you prefer.
Incidently the last dvla auction had 123 WRX in it - from memory it went for £1500 - anyone from the forum buy it?

yep, i would defo try DVLA first, you'll get certificate within 5 days, then all you gotta do is get the plates made and yourself to DVLA office for instant transfer, like a trip to Woolworths, well worth it !!

I got myself S555 TBO (turbo?) for £250 off the dvla recently.
Couldnt have been easier, buy the reg over the phone, papers come, get down to your local dvla office (check the website, it may not be that local!)
transfer it onto your car of choosing, and then go get the plate made up.

123 WRX went for £1600 at the November auction from memory. I posted here to see who bought it, but no one replied.
SUB 22B went in the same auction for £2600 I think - again, a posting but no reply.
