Thinking of decatting my downpipe...

Probably a stupid question, but...
Can the catalyst in the downpipe be removed (or do I need to buy a new downpipe that doesn't have the cat in)?
If it can be removed, how difficult is it to do?
Thanks.

Thanks...
That is what I thought.
Any advice on which one to get, and where from anybody?
Also, is it worth doing in your opinions?
I have a 3" centre section, and a 4.5" Ninja backbox.

i've seen somewhere on the net about ripping out the inside of the cat, so basically you have a decat that doesn't look like one.
Anyone know where that is??

It is possible to get the cat out of a standard downpipe, shoving a metal bar down will eventually break it up. However, it's a pain to do and obviously non-reversible, so if your car fails its MOT or you get pulled on the street, you're not in a position to quickly swap the catted downpipe back in to get it through.
The good decat downpipes perform better not simply because they're decatted, the open neck ones also improve the gas flow out of the turbo and into the pipe.
The short answer is that it's worth spending a few quid on a proper one.

It'd be next to impossible to remove the catalyst in a manner that wouldn't be immediately obvious. The way it's commonly done is to hammer the side of the cat chamber to break up the matrix. Obviously if the servicing garage sees a "cat" that looks like it's been ten with Mike Tyson, they're going to smell a rat.
There's also the question of what would happen if they noticed any odd readings when they had the car on a Select Monitor, and, with the New Age cars, the fact that removing the cat would cause a CEL.

Could I suggest that you look at Powerengineering site as I have been quoted £165 and looking at the product looks totally different from Scoobysport pipe. Anyone tell me what the difference is ?, is the PE pipe also an up pipe (looks like two pipes?)
