There are many things that are conjectured/suspected to cause big end failures, from incomplete oil change procedure to the wrong oil, though sticking pressure relief valves and prolonged operation at high road/engine speeds to the position of the moon and the side you got out of bed this morning.
There's no conclusive proof that the standard oil pump isn't up to the job for "normal" road use (provided it's working properly, see relief valve comment above). If you're going to have the front of the engine off anyway, and feel like the outlay is worth your peace of mind, sure, go for it. If not, there's nothing to suggest the standard one won't carry on doing the job more than adequately.
