About a week ago a couple of people posted that they had a whining noise at just over 60mph on an MY03, that their dealer couldn't find the cause of. I had the same and have had a new rear diff fitted today which has fixed the problem.

Nice one Andy, I get a noise with my MY03 WRX. Which dealer did you use to fix it?

On mine though, the sounds seems to come from the front of the car. Makes a noise (like rubbing your finger around thr rim of a wine glass - only a deeper tone - at 61mph and it goes at 65mph. Does this sound similar to your issue?

JMK,

That sound exactly the same as mine. I thought it was coming from the front as well. Mine started at 62mph and stopped at about 65mph. CD Brammells in Cheltenham fixed mine.

Good Luck

Simon,

I don't know if they found anything wrong they just told that it okay now, but it has fixed the problem so there must have been somthing wrong with it.

Question

Andy,

Thanks for that,

My whine is like this: in the morning its bearly noticable, but on a long jurney it gets quite bad, load makes a little bit of difference to the volume but not much. Also it doesnt seem to mater if your accelerating or decelerating (60-65mph), it the same noise (just about)

Was that the same for you?

Simon, that's exactly what my noise is like and the same speed 61-65mph. It happens in any gear and regardless of accelerating / breaking, but doesn't get worse if the cars cold / hot from what I'm aware, it just happends all the time. However, as I live in SW London, the diff's oil is probably hot before I get to a road where I can safely do 60, so possibly when the oil's cold there's no noise.

Just spoken to Subaru Isleworth and they were very helpful and will look at the car in Jan and if it's a suspect diff will seek approval to have it replaced under warranty. I'll let you know how I get on, likely to be end of Jan until I know.

I'll try and get the intermittent wiper noise sorted at the same time.

Yes that does sound the same. Mine got louder when the car was warm.
