Red face

My missus spoke with someone this morning, who'd had a scooby knicked from their driveway mid last week, they live near Pocklington, East Yorks.

The scum apparantly broke into their house, whilst the owners were upstairs in bed and knicked the keys, followed by the car.

As far as I understand a police helicopter was involved in the search but the car is still missing despite having a virtually empty petrol tank when it was knicked.

Don't know the facts yet, but I'll try and find out more details.

Mine (MY01 WRX wagon ) got knicked 2 weeks ago.
I got a call from Bradford police yesterday - it's currently being used as the getaway car by a gang of ram raiders! They haven't even bothered to change the licence plates...
Hope the cops catch them - but only after my insurance have paid out !

Shame to hear that tony. I got one fitted from new, not that it deters any of the thieving scumbags, but just the thought they may be caught is enough for me to get 1 fitted.

A tracker mite help catch the B@st@rds in the act of ram raiding.. but would you really want your car back after its been through half a dozen shop fronts and WOT 100% while trying to get away.

I also have one fitted but makes you think.

hope they catch 'em

Madgrip,
ah no, these gangs are far more sophisticated than that! They nick big 4x4 (e.g. a shogun) to do the ramming, and then use the subaru for the getaway. Mine being a wagon, its all the more convenient for loading up with the loot I guess!
And I definitely don't want the car back now!
I'm getting an STi, so its got tracker anyway, but its tracker plus blackjack that I really want. Just a tracker isn't much good if you don't wake up when they nick the car.

Dont you still need the key fob to activate the blackjack?. If they have the keys dont they have total access to the car. PS surely with tracker the idea is to notify them asap and recover the car quickly, and hence wouldnt have been used in numerous raids?

Trackers are no longer a deterent or a means to get your car back. Once they are gone for more than an hour they are normally gone.

Insurance companies insisting on them have mad the theives aware the car has a 99% chance of having one.

Blackjax uses a keypad and code. So doesn't matter if they have the keys, the car will cut out down the road.

My tracker is 'active' and should kick in if the car moves without the ignition key!

The police have "found" my car! The ram raiders raided an arcade in Huddersfield. The alarm went off and, by luck, three cop cars were close by. The gang all jumped into my car and drove at speed head on into a plod-mobile.
I'm pretty pleased. The gang are in jail and I get the insurance pay out (I'd much rather that the car was a writeoff than get it back in iffy condition). In the circumstances that's the best I could hope for.

I would also hope that if it was my scoob they would torch it

I have a diesel vauxhall Omega as a theft deterrent - it parks across the drive so they'd have to steal that too, and lets face it, who would??

Definately thinking about blackjax, but then I've been thinking about it for a year nearly and still haven't done it

Black Jax is stunning even if they get the keys it will still cut the engine out. If you want to know more email me at mtaylor1981@btopenworld.com .

tonym thats good news.

I take it this happened early Friday morning sometime. I work in Huddersfield, and noticed the whole of the entrance to the Kingsgate shopping arcade, totally smashed.

Its no wonder they were caught though, as the arcade is right in the middle of the town centre , full of traffic calming measures. Also if they used your car for the ram, by the looks of it they only just got between two pillars.

The police station is litrally 1 min. away from it aswell.

Hope the crash broke their legs aswell!!

Cool

I'm gettinng the Mother-in-Law to sleep in the back of the car.

At least if it gets nicked, I won't feel just as bad

In fact I might even leave the keys in the ignition.
