Why were you broken into ?

You say "broken into" rather than "stolen", which infers the thieving ***** were interested in the contents of the car, rather than the car itself.

Hide everything from view, get a bloody great yellow wheel lock, lots of flashing LEDS. Park in a brightly lit area.

If you have a flashy stereo or speakers on show, you're asking for trouble.

In reply to your 'erm' help!!!!!
Bob....I was parked in carparks in daytime on 4 occasions and out side my home in the last one(at 4.30pm) I have a garage but in only one occasion (the last) I was going out in half an hour!!!

DavidBrown.........I DO MEAN BROKEN INTO AS ,thank god. I HAVE A DECENT CAR ALARM OR I WILL BE SAYING STOLEN AND WILL NOT BE EVEN POSTING THIS !!!!!!I have a 'BIG GREAT YELLOW WHEEL LOCK!! I do not have any fancy car system only a pioneer headunit which is a faceoff (and I always take it out) unless it is raining outside then yes I do have a 'fancy' black compact umbrella.
I think that I may have the least fancy gadgets in my car as I do not even have a gauge or any fancy 'get quicker' electronic gadgets ...YOU will have more fancy stuff if you have a gauge or a temp. reader!!!!!!!!!

Karlo, Even if you block off the locks it won't stop the determined thief. A friend of mine had the locks blocked on his car after two break-ins, so they smashed the window at five times the cost of replacing the lock. One of my customers had a barrier dealock fitted to his Quattro and when the tea leaves couldn't drive it away they slashed all the leather seats. There is no easy answer. Here in Leeds there are places I would never leave the car unattended or drive through without the doors locked.

You could add a pager to your alarm system, but do you really want to know that your car is being broken into half a mile away with no chance of getting there to stop it happening?

If they want in then I'd rather they did it with the least amount of damage. That is, as long as the rest of the protection stops them driving it away.

I'm very sorry if my assistance was stating the obvious to you. But what is obvious to you, may not be to others. And as I don't know you, I spared some time to give some advice.

If you consider this a waste of YOUR time, then I'm very sorry. I'll make a mental note not to offer any response to your posts in future, in the off-chance that they're too obvious for you. As I certainly wouldn't want to waste your time again.

I think you need to calm down. I will not be able to prevent your car from being broken into whatever make of car it is and no matter how good the locks or security are. If they can't get in through the doors they will smash the windows just for the hell of it. The best suggestion is to move or get a garage. Remove the sticker thats says, 'EXPENSIVE ICE INSIDE. If you don't like that, stop wasting our time!

To reply to your message DavidBrown,
There was no need to go into 'grammer'picking the first time, someone who has brought an expensive car with their hard earned money would no doubt ensure that they are the only one who is driving it!!
You lost the plot when I asked for help in delocking my car or better improvements!!!
NOT WHAT IS IN MY CAR WORTH NICKING!!
You was not assisting or stating the obvious but IGNORING the first posting I made.
If you thought that the second posting was mainly directed at you then please accept my apologises.
Regards
Karlo
p.s. If you want to , we can speak offline and leave the posting free
p.p.s I have posted many questions in the past and have been given stupid answers or the posting have been totally ignored
This is the first posting I have made after many months and it is still the same!!!

Delocking your car (depending on how you do it) could work out to be prohibitively expensive.. but then, if you're losing £££ on damage each time.. then who knows.

If you delocked the car, you should still retain your internal door handles (for safety). Thieves could then break your window, and open the door through the window. So delocking isn't really an option IMO.

You could consider protective window film which makes it (virtually) impossible to break the window.

The downside is that (I think) it still shatters the glass, meaning you'll need to replace it, and you run the risk of a frustrated thief taking his anger out on your bodywork.

5 break-ins in one year is excessive, can you think of any common link behind these incidents ?

5 breakins - that's a bit scary, I must be due one soon. I've got secure parking during the day, so maybe that along with 3 (count 'em!) different flashing LED's helps.

Re windows - I don't think film will help, you can pull away the window far enough to work the interior locks with a coat hanger, without doing any damage at all - that's the "joy" (along with the wind noise) of having frameless windows .

I think parking sensibly and having a decent alarm/immobiliser is the best you can reasonably do.

Cool

Thank you DavidBrown and Ken,
I am thinking of the protective film
The reason for the delocking the car is so that the bast**ds cannot get in through the locks and handles , I am thinking of another stronger metal skin so that they cannot punch a hole through the door ( they have on most occasions)
Do you think that will work
The way I am looking at it is, if it looks hard to break in then they will leave?????
What do you think????

Cool

I am also thinking of thating or blanking the internal handles
Sorry for all the other postings
At last I am getting good advise and info
Hope you guys can help me with your mechanical minds
The soluction I am thinking is:-
1)protective film
2)remove external doors and blank up!!
3) re-enforce the doors with extra 'ski'
4)blank off the internal door handles
5) internal eye camera??(can you get one of these with d/l for computer??(I think I seen one in Maplins)
I know this is a bit extreme but I WILL beat the bast**ds
will this work?????

I wouldn't blank your inside door handles, how would you (or your less-familiar) passengers get out in an emergency ? Such as a crash or fire ?

Not recommened.

Toad offers an internal camera which takes snaps of the thieves.

Karlo, I was at an SIDC course recently and some chap there had the protective film, he seemed very impressed with it.

Getting in via the frameless windows I can't comment on, but the technique on older cars was to put something smooth down the outside of the window and lift the internal mechanism. I had two 205GTIs and on both I unscrewed the door lining and tap-screwed in a little blanking plate just above the mechanism, so no-one would be able to do that.

Does sound like you live in a savage area though. Reminds me of a story I heard about an 8-yr-old asking 50p to protect some guy's car in a car park. Matey was furious, and finally explained to the boy that there was a vicious Doberman inside the car, who would eat any potential thief. The kid's response? "Really Mister? Does he put out fires, too?"

All the best, sorry for the crap answer; you have sympathy!!

I have a Toad system and the the system will enable me to lock and un-lock the doors from the buttons.
But to be on the safe side I will need to have a mechanical device to close/open doors
maybe a smooth piecs of metal ,shaped like a curve covering the internal handles work
it will stop the coathanger trick but also leave the handles for safely??
Need to be attached in some way so that it will easily come off inside but hard for the outside.
What about the wind deflectors for the windows???
will that stop the coathanger trick??
It is not standard on a uk but is it standard on imports???

Have you considered aftermarket 'dead-locks'.
They essentially lock the locks thus reducing the number of unlock points that require protection.

The one system I managed to find out about consisted of replacement central locking motors. These had a locking pin to lock the actuators in the lock position.

The kit relied on using an aux unlock feature of an alarm, eg boot release, and had a safety feature of auto un-dead-lock in the event of low battery voltage. Combine this with laminated windows and the car should be ok. Just unsure whether the Subaru's internal door lock latches with operate independently of the central locking.

Hope this helps
Raymond

I concur with ristt, there are aftermarket deadlocks that could be just what you want. I think SPAL (or SEMPAL) make them, and IIRC it was about 150 quid for a 2 door, fitted. Car Stereo & Security mag (as it was called back them) rated them extremely highly.

Protective film: will it still work due to having no frame on the window? Probably best to get real tales here rather than theories. Get the fitter to back up what they say. There's a very good place in London (Pentagon?) that seems to do an excellent job if a little pricy.

Other comment: the sods will get in if they want to. Cars with deadlocks have needed a new door thanks to handiwork with a crowbar. Still got in, but caused shedloads of damage.

Good luck.

I doubt that you will get sensible answers by posting crap like this. I can't believe anyone responded to you after this. If you ask for help, you will usually get some. Sure, you may get a few silly answers. 5 times in one year is a lot. Perhaps you have been targeted - do you show off around town? Perhaps people have seen you and then followed your car?

What went missing when they attacked last - if anything? Are they trying to steal the car or trying to nick your stereo/goodies? Is it just vandalised?

Anyway - I guess I'm just pretty shocked by you jumping up and down and stamping your feet at people who are trying to help you.

5 Times !!!
Have you upset the local scum bags ?? it sounds like they are just trying to vandalise your car.

TOAD do the Smoke thingy to attach to their alarms.

I would get the film to protect the glass, does it come tinted ???

Blank off both the door locks and rear and front passenger door handles.

Fit dead locks to all doors a pain but a least they wont be able to open them, Dont forget the boot can they gain access from there ??

Ensure alarm LED can be seen and maybe stickers saying about alarm. I have seen a car which when the alarm goes off the front and rear number plates drop off showing a flashing blue light and a new plate saying stolen please call police !!!

Just a few Idea's hope they help.

I must confer that you have got yourself a bit angry, anyway as not to incur your wrath further; if your car was broken into lots or vandalised blah blah outside your home had you thought of installing a CCTV camera nearby so as to record the events. Not great I know but if you put discreet signs up saying car protected by CCTV they might think twice and if not at least you have a recording of the (%*&*&)*&%())^_(*^iuogioghjg&*T%)&^)&^^)(^)&^terds . I think that B&Q do them for a few hundred quid. Touch wood I haven't had my car touched since I have had it. However I had a new Golf GTI as a temporary car for 6 months between changing jobs and that got broken into/vandalised 5 times, you have my sympathy there is nothing quite like the feeling of seeing your pride and joy done over.

PS Chill, I can’t see anything in this thread but people trying to genuinely help.

Thanks all for your help!!!
I have connected Toad Dealers and have been told that the smoke device is off the market and so is the toad eye.
To make things more clearer .
I live in the city and it takes me 45 mins to get to work (I start at 7.00am so I miss the rush hour)
I see a lot of subarus (quite a few 22bs) so I guess I do not actually 'show off'
I just brought the car as it was cheap and more value for money (no harm in that is there???)
That posting, fullonloon, was directed at the person called jackdenon as he obviously did not take the time to read the postings before replying. Please read the preivous postings and you will understand my meaning.
I have chilled out now as I have got positive answers to my first question and I cannot thank you all more enough for helping me out!!!!
Please do not bring up that again, thanks.
Barge , the protective film comes ,I think, in 6 different tints.
The last time and possibly all the time the thieves have tried to take the car when they are un-successful they took the back of the head unit (without the face as I take that all the time), they even tried to drill the yellow wheel lock that covers the whole steering wheel
Brooks, can I have that number please??
It was only the last time that the car was broken into outside my home (I will now put my car in the garage whether I am going out in 10 mins or 30 mins!!!it is a pain but needs to be done!!)
Regards
karlo
p.s
I have spoken to some bodyshops and have been told that it is a lot of work for the de-locking (need car for 1-2 weeks??)
I have been quoted 250-300 per door?????
I think I will divert from that idea

The smoke screen product is by Credex Ltd. Contact: Peter Helman 01737 556602. Last October the price was £310 + vat plus post. This price does not include installation but does include the interface to the alarm. I have no experience of this company other than the literature that they sent to me. Best of luck.

I hope this does not count as a silly reply, maybe a naive one. I have seen a device advertised at various places like the Motor Show and at Silverstone but I can't remember the brand name. It looks like a steering lock but is electrified. The picture had a comedy style bolt of lightening zapping the thief. I like the idea of hurting these b@st@rds and if the device is advertised I guess it must be legal?? I remember a guy in Cambridge who elecrified the outside of his car and was arrested because it was zapping passers by but inside the car must be different.
