May and Hammond must die!

Not because of what they've said about our beloved scoob, but because they are a couple of tosspots being deliberately contentious, like some of the imbeciles we get on here trolling for a reaction. They know the Mk1 scoob is already a classic. They will be rare in unaltered form, which is what counts to real enthusiasts of classic cars. Escort Cossies are a similar classic, and everyone wants original, undisturbed examples.
The Mk1 scoob is good-looking, and the Halfords jibe is just crap, because the popularity of the "Halfords" repro junk is a reaction to the scoob's distinctive styling. Crappy aftermarket plastic turbo scoops may dilute the distinctiveness of the classic scoob's looks but you're putting the cart before the horse if you confuse the originator with the copyist.
The fiasco of placing the Turbo 2000 in the "Junk" section is the latest stunt in a recent spate of scooby baiting and it's playing into the hands of these ***** when they get the expected reaction.
The Subaru Impreza is an Icon. We know it, they know it, and they will laugh their ***** off at every outraged e-mail they receive stating the fact..
"Leave 'em Duane.... they're not worth it!!"

It's not a distinctive car really. It's a logical stage in the evolutionary process, somewhere between Subaru's 1.8 turbo coupé (remember them?) and the current state of the art, the Evolution-8. i don't think it'll be remembered as a classic for a while.

The Impreza is a classic in its own time, but the MAF sensors will render them all useless beyond 2005 Man will land on the moon and the 3 millionth member of Scoobynet will come on line with his internet enabled sunglasses and ask " is it big end number 3 or my MAF sensor? the dealer wants a billion Euros for the rebuild!!??"
a classic? nope

If it isn't a distinctive car, why do I get the thumbs up from kids wherever I go? And mine's a wagon!
And quickness wasn't mentioned in my post as a prerequisite for classic status either- hundreds of scoobs go faster than mine- but mine's a cherished original.

Bubba, you get the thumbs up because they think you're Billy Idol
4 door and wagon, classic? Nope. 22B, yes its a classic by their criteria (rare, interesting and beautiful).

I'd says its a classic. It was the first car to bring 4WD, turbo power to the masses in an affordable AND reliable package.
Yes I know the COssies were there first and the Integrale and Quattro were years before but the Impreza did it reliably, with JD Power winning backup and thats good enough to make it a classic.
I'm emailing Top gear to put the Daihatsu Charade GTti on there too. First production engine to reach 100bhp poer litre and sounds like a Porsche 911.

Get over it guys FFS!

Sureley this falls to the Escort Cossie (it was all of the things above) if not something earlier....(not sure you could call the low number of Integrale's made "to the masses" but hey, what do I know, there may have been more of them than the Escoss for all I know...)

Scoob only won JD power because it was owned almost exclusively by enthusiasts in 'the good old days'. It's always been a rattly, piston slappy, plasticky bag-o-nails in reality. However we were willing to overlook those faults for the 'exclusivity' and performance it offered back in '97/'98. A standard production scoob is nowhere near the classic status a cossie, Quattro or 'grale have (and deserve).

lol! Relax guys
I like May and Hammond, they're amusing (and much, much better than the last guy on there!! )
What does it matter as long as you like your car As soon as the article was on Top Gear I got several texts and phone calls - luckily I don't take these things personally

I like them actually, James May has been around for years.
Not sure whether they are right or not, but the Scoob is fairly common. If anything it will become a classic much later on, similar to how the 205 GTi has now
Scoob is far more common than an Escort Cossie.

Ho hum. What makes a Classic car is all a bit subjective. Top Gear defined their own rules and they are so wooly they could accept or rejec anything they wanted.
Clicky
Includes the MY00 turbo as a classic (with interesting tech info!), there are others out there that do and others that don't.
It is certainly an enthusiasts car without a doubt.
