I just had a visit from Plod , they have heard on an "undisclosed network" , that someone plans to nick my scoob tonight. As I will be working away tonight, that will make it difficult. But the problem remains that my wife and kids wil be here if any sh1tbag comes looking. As my driveway is meagre , and I don't have a garage , hopefully it will be obvious that the car isn't here , and they will fukc off. So I'll be at work worrying that they may pay a visit , decide to break in and nick the crimbo presents anyway. Bloody marvellous isn't it? I could call in sick , lose a nights pay, and the tossers will come over anyway, or if they don't then I lose some wedge, and have a sleepless night. At least the family will be safe, unless they come mob handed...
Has anyone had experience of being told this by plod , or heard of it previously?
Thanks in advance for any advice or comments.

If the police have told you this then I would expect them to be round the corner waiting for them or at least one of them in your house

if the police have told you this, then surely it must now rest with them to protect you! it is after all what they get paid for.

It seems a bit weird that they would bother to tell me , as usually after the event , they couldn't give a toss in most cases.
The car is worth 6k max. One thing that crossed my mind was, a few days ago on the way to work, I pulled over to change the cd, usually do it while driving, it was early in the morining, I changed the disc , before I could drive off, a Police 4 x 4 had pulled up beside me , the copper asked me a few questions, maybe checking that I wasn't pissed etc, then drove off. These coppers today asked a few more questions and asked to see my drivers license. I'm thinking/hoping that they were just following up the first incident/non-incident , possibly using the other story as a cover up?
Christ its making me paranoid....lol , these things happen when you get married and have kids.

God help you if you rely on the plod for help!!!

Phone the station up. Ask them why they are so "Sure" demand that if a officer is not placed outside you house immediatly you will contact the press and sue the **** off them should anything happen.

I hate to have to say it but were these real police officers?

May be worth a call to the station to find out?

Nathan..

Um.... I agree with Nathan that this sounds a bit Moody - and I have good reason to respect Nathan's expertise in such matters. If Police had said "we expect you to be targetted, so can we stake you out", I'd have been relaxed: Plod - not even Thames Valley - doesn't go round gratuitously putting the wind up people to no good purpose. And, since I doubt if you would have posted if you had had confidence in the exchange you had with the Officers, I infer that you have misgivings, too.

I'm sorry to add to the concerns you'll now be feeling - but you did post for opinions, after all - and I think you should see if you can get some sort of reassurance as to Police intentions - and as to the genuineness of your visitors. Tricky at this time on XMas eve! Depending on how Thames Valley run their CID and their communications into the Force, I'd have thought the CID at your local Area HQ station (???Oxford???) will be the best bet. However, as the car won't be there, a disappointed withdrawal by the ******* is odds-on (IMHO) - if there are any ******* in the first place!! Make sure the house doors and windows are locked, and try not to worry.

Hope all turns out OK......let us know???

park the crock round the corner or in a different street, stay at home with a large baseball bat and enjoy christmas day, if the crock is still there on boxing day then a result!!

Sorry to have to say this, but the Dibble are now one of the organisations in the UK that you can trust about as far as you could throw a car load of 'em.

They'll come round and tell you all sorts of lies to cover their own shortcomings, then cover the lies when you complain.
Have as little to do with them as possible:

This is my other log in , at work , not for long , should be going home in 10 mins....
I phone up Thames Valley , who then redirected me to the local station , I then left a message. They phoned back, I told them of the incident regarding the 2 plod who came round. They checked and phoned me back to confirm that these were genuine plod.
Advised me of an incident number should anything happen. Were unable to provide any further support....Great.
My brother and 2 mates are coming over for a drink to see Xmas in , in case they show up..
The thing is , if it doesn't go tonight , it will probably be got at over this period. Not much I can do , use the Barrier deadlock, and they will only break in for the keys.
I'm hoping they will lose interest and nick one elsewhere.
Oh well , thanks for the opinions guys , Merry Xmas again!

M8, DONT let it ruin xmas, local plod (Thames Valley) have tols me they are amazed the car is still there (mine), and heard a similar thing from them earlier in the year.

End of the day lock up, alarm it etc, dont leave anu devices cos of a fear of them breaking in the house. If its pros they are going to get the car but wont risk it if there is an easier one.

We all know that plod & co are completely useless unless u are doing 31 in a 30, in which case u are a criminal.

All the best for xmas.

If you can think about security cameras perhaps. No joke they are pretty inexpensive in the most basic form from B&Q, good exterior motion activated lights (500w) good steering wheel lock, CAT1.... on 2nd thoughts how about a pitbull..

All the best - hope you catch the *******.

If you have a driveway, make sure its blocked when the scoob is parked inside (ask a neighbour to park infront or something).

If you can get two cars in the drive, fold the mirrors in and park as closely as possible next to the driver side.

Keep a weapon handy too.

Edited to add if you feel safer them taking it then, let them. If you want to make some barriers then you can also fit a disclok which means they have to make a lot of noise or try breaking into the house (that's where the weapon comes in handy).

Merry Christmas by the way!

Police are the same as Joe Public, they fall for all the media hype that if u have a scooby you'll be car-jacked/have house broken into etc!!
Ignore them and carry on your usual business, if you worry about it it's gonna make it worse.
I bet less than 1% of scooby owners have had any problems.
Oh, and get a BlackJax. Anyone tries to nick my car they have to get into my house, past the dog, through my baseball bat, past the missus(harder than both dog and bat), and figure out the blackjax. No chance

Hate to have to say it but ... I think you should take Nathan's advice .. it comes from a degree of experience. Just for piece of mind as it were.

Cheers

Hi all , yes still there , about 10 mins ago though a silver scooby went past my drive 2 or 3 times , a couple of young kids in it , took the plate just incase. My road is fairly private so it is unlikely that they were just passing.

Jeebus that's terrible to have to worry about that on xmas eve. I had the wing kicked in on my car when I was in the pub last night, I was just meeting friends in a few villages ( i was on 7up) and came out and the door wouldn't open as the wing is catching it. when I stopped the coppers and told them they asked me why I was in the pub with the car in the first place!! it seems i'm more guilty because I'm in a pub stone cold sober than the dirtbag that layed a few boots into my car.
I'd never rely on coppers not in any country especially in Eire, they are just after easy revenue-- i.e the motorist.
Sorry for ranting on chrimbo day
Enjoy
John
