swapping over some tyres soon and was wondering if anybody has found the anthracite paint a bit fragile for the average tyre fitter?
got a specialist tyre/alloy fitters 30 mins away but would be easier to do it local.
had a brand new alloys scratched by a muppet changing the tyre on my old car and don't really want it happening again.

cheers

I went to kwik fit and they wouldnt do mine cause they wernt confident enough to assure me that they would be able to do it without damage. They are amateurs and only think they look good when the are throwing 14" Fiesta wheels around. I called the manager a pansy and told him I would find someone who was good at their job. Then went to Revoloution, they gaurnteed me no damage, and they were cheaper.

Thought there was no one better than a quick fit fitter/

i have been fitting tyres for 14year and personley i have never damaged a wheel in any way. i have even fitted tyres for super bikes and you are looking at £1000.00+ for 2. but i will never say that i will not mark them in any way. because you never know. it cost us £600.00 and the fitter did EVERY THINK CORRECT we even had the company out TIPTOP to look at the fitting equipment all ok.it has NEVER happend again. all its down to is the person fitting the tyres and his Professional approach to the job.

Kwik fit near me (Castleford, Yorks) where total W@nkers with my 18" Super leggeras.

I went in to have them balanced, i needed the wheels spot on as at the time i had an ongoing warranty claim with my brake discs and expalined this to them.(i wouldnt have trusted them to change the tires ), they commented on how expensive they must have cost, then went on to run the inside of the wheel (where the plastic centre cap fits) all the way along the course threads of the balancing machine! mad:

And you know whats worse, the ******* still wobbled when i set off along the road!. Not wanting to go back there again (even though it would have been free) i waited a couple of days, and took them to an old m8, both wheels were 60 grams out!!!!!!!!!!!

Rang the complaints line ... they couldnt give a toss, said i should have taken the car back and got them to re-do the balancing .. yeah right!

If you've got nice wheels take them to a true alloy wheel specialist, dont take no chances just to save a few quid.

Scooby-si

I've seen your wheels and if you were charged £4000 for a set then someone has had your pants down.

(in case your wondering who I am, I saw you at scoobymania today)

if you go to kwik fit thats wot you will get a quick job. there is not a company that just does alloy fitting. it is a tyre/exhaust company. all it is down to is the fitting machine if you pay £500.00 it WILL mark them if you £2000.00 to £5000.00 then you will be simling. that all it is down to.

no not to fit them for the machine to take them on and off. it would cost about £15.00 inc vat a wheel if you want the job doing right. but wot does cost mean if the car is your pride and joy.

the local place sells alloy packages aswell (it's an independant tyre shop) so hopefully their machine should be up to the job. i've got a 17" P1 alloy for a spare and thats already marked so i might let them loose with that and see what happens.
cheers for your advice guys, as for kwik fit i don't think this thread will get them any new customers

Thumbs up

I've got P1 wheels on the Terzo, when I changed the tyres the last time I went to Elite which is on the old A13, now the A1306 at Rainham (the Essex one, not the Kentish one ). It's about 15 minutes from the Dartford Crossing.

When I took it in I insisted the salesman walk around the car with me to inspect the wheels which were (and still are) in A1 condition. I asked him to make a note of this. When I returned to the car I inspected all the wheels and made sure there was no damage. This was the case. To top it all, because I changed all 4 tyres at the same time I also sorted out a discount. IIRC it was 10% off the bill.

I have no hesitation in recommending them

Scooby-Si you use Kwikfit ?? Carstins use mobile Kwikfit people to fit tyres.

- once they re-fitted a buckled alloy to my car even though I'd paid for a new one
- once the balance weights fell off
- twice i've had to return to re-balance after getting vibration white-finger off the steering wheel and through the seat.
- they also fit the weights to the rims, which damages the alloys. You'd think a dealer would do a proper job.

Which Kwikfit do you use - I suppose some of them must be alright, its all down to the mechanics and management at the end of the day.

Do you or anyone know of a decent outfit in the Birmingham area ??

Yours frustratingly and ever hopeful of finding time to go on a meet

Wilster.

Kwick fit are monkeys. Took my last car there and they treated it without any respect and they forgot to fit one of my locking wheel nuts. I would NEVER take any car there again
