New to the board - Looking for info
#1
Hi, I'm new to the board and wanted to asked a few questions.
At the moment I'm looking at buying a scooby, not sure which one though. I'm currently running a Mini Cooper S Works (about 210bhp) which is not that quick if I'm honest, but it does the daily commute to work ok. I also run a Caterham R300, and although it is quick, forget it when its wet!
So basically I'm trying to decide on the following cars:
1. A new scooby
2. An Evo 8
3. Or wait until 2005 and go for the Focus Cosworth
One of the main reasons I'm looking at the Scooby is that they seem to be very easy to tune and they are a good all weather car in terms of handling and performance. Can anyone advise me on which car would be best?
Cheers!
Chris

On a board like this your not goint to get many votes for a Ford ot Evo !!
Mate of mine had a Mcrae series for a while sold that, got a Makhenan Evo sold that (very problematic) & now owns a 22B..
Been told the Evo's are more expensive to run than a scooby !!
My vote is a Scooby !!

Cheers mate!
Yeah I've heard that Evo's are very expensive to run. However, I really don't know the costs of running a Scoob either. Basically I want something that is easy to tune, fun to use in all weather and untouchable on the road.
If I were to buy a car new, is it worth going for the PPP kit or buy my own tuning parts? (I know sometimes the official parts can be more expensive and actually offer less BHP).
Cheers.

What kind of scoob do you want?
If you want something fun very quick, get a TypeR (2door) or TypeRA (4door) Both these cars can be had for around 14k - 16k.
If you want something newer which is still raw, consider the specC.
If you want something new but with all the fancy bits on, I would advise the STI8 (actually an STI9 in Japan)
Either way, from the sounds of things your after a quick car. All the cars I mentioned are Japanese imports and I would advise you to go down that route if a 210bhp mini didn't float your boat.

Wow didn't realise there were so many different versions, talk about confussing
I've never looked at buying an import, I suppose I've always assumed buying a new UK model was the safest bet, especially when you're talking of spending around 26-28k. So I take it the imports offer more bhp from stock?

imports offer a whole lot of extra features, better spec than the uk car for same or sometimes even less money, if you go with larger companies you can also get a decent warranty also, the only other issue to think about is insuring it

IMO, there are only 2 downsides to imports.
-You can't have it serviced at a Subaru garage
-Insurance is slightly higher.
For the service thing, there are loads of amazing performance specalists out there whom will service your car. This will not effect the resell value. i would prefer a car serviced by somewhere like scoobysport or BRD anyway.
As for the insurance, well your getting a better equiped car. If you bought a UK can and modified it, the insurance would probably match.
