For the pas couple of days, i've been hearing a metallic jingle type sound (no - it wasn't Santa) coming from the car as i drove. It was only tonight on a 50 mile burn about that i actually decided it was coming from the rear of the car. I figured that it maybe one of the 55k miles rear pads that may be down to metal. Anyway decided to check it out in daylight! Got home, put the car in the gararge and on my way past the rear wheel, i could feel heat and could smell burning
I had a look with the torch, and i was right about the pad
I figured that i couldn't leave it that hot (wheel really hot too) so it took 3 watering cans full to cool it, and it was still quite warm to the touch.
Morale of the story??????? - none
I just thought i'd share it

Morale of the story is change the pads more often m8.
I once lost a front pad on a fiat 127 sport when I was young and skint. The car was braking on one pad and the piston. I couldn't afford a new caliper so just banged some more pads in even with the well scuffed piston and disc, worked fine afterwards!

The jingle is an inbuilt feature of Subaru brake pads. The "Audible Wear Indicator" as they term it. Can't think what made your disc overheat, though, cos I had that jingle for about a month with no ill-effects until I could get the discs and pads replaced.
