Question

just got a k reg wrx about 2 days ago, mint car ,full jsp history etc, car drove sweet on the test drive etc, anyway it now seems to be holding back when i give it some ,so i fitted a boost gauge and it reads 0.8, sometimes i can pull away from a junction and it flys, then the next juction it will seem to be holding back, checked the ecu for faults and none came up, so anybody with any advice,as i dont want to use it when its like this ,and i am using optimax and octane booster
Thanks for any help
John

0.8 is correct for that age wrx.

is it holding that or does it drop when it feel slow ?

you may have an air leak so check all your hoses.

i got the car private ,so theres not much i can do ,pluss the car was running fine on the test drive and all the way home, i have got it booked in for a service tomoz,as i dont know when the fuel filter, plugs etc had been changed, but what i did find out at the garage is the too much oil can make them run bad, checked my oil and there is too much in lol,so hopefully get it sorted on saturday,
ps thanks to all for the reply's, really nice bunch, other peeps in scooby's even wave and flash when i was on the road

Just got an update on the scooby, just had it for a full service to all plugs ,fuel filter etc changed, and the car is still the same ,i can only describe it like running on half boost ,but the gauge reads 0.8, again today sometimes it would take off and then others it would just hold back ,so i did the ecu check- no faults, and did the reset this time the gauge only read 0.4 boost?, took the plugs off ,back out 0.8 again, does this give anybody an idea, stick actuator?
please any info as i want to enjoy this beast

Cheers John

What fuel you got in it? Could be doing with Optimax and octane booster in that age of wrx. Always worth filling up with good fuel esp if youve just bought it you don't know whats been in it til now...

good luck

fair play then mate just going for the obvious - my only other suggestions would be coil packs/earthing issues maybe?

My 95 uk turbo did this for a while - felt hesitant in 2nd when cold and was cured by improving the earths. Sounds a bit different to your issue though - sorry I can't suggest much else

cheers

Thumbs up

It sounds similar to what i had on my UK MY98.It turned out not to be a problem with the car at all,i dont know if this applies to imports, but on mine, if i floored it from a standstill, it would go like stink, but if i pulled away and held it at 2.5k/3,5k revs in 1st or 2nd gear for a few seconds and then floored it, it would hold back like you say yours is doing. The ECU is programmed to do this for some reason(probably emmissions),when i fitted a manual boost control(dawes device), it got over this annoying problem once and for all.
It doesnt seem to do it on my MY01 though.
