Yes and No ![Wink](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)
If the Engine is fecked
may be due to
A) Air filter, contaminated MAF sensor and so fecked engine
B) Air filter giving MAF sensor incorrect reading, leaning out engine![Frown](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/frown.gif)
C) can't think of an excuse so blame Air filter (![Frown](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/frown.gif)
d) Crap parts and "They all do that Sir" but blame Air filter![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)
Un-warranted parts are only dear in the short run![Wink](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)
![Wink](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)
IMHO

Wakeboarder, there's an open letter floating round on the K&N website somewhere that say something along the lines that if you should ever be refused a warranty claim by a motor manufacturer on the grounds that you replaced an OE filter with a K&N product, they'll help you fight the case.
In other words, they're pretty confident that their filters shouldn't invalidate any warranties, but if you have any concerns, it might not be a bad idea to have a word with your dealer before you fit one.

Wakeborder,
I will agree with both greaseMonkey and Donutman
It would be fairly straight forward if the Filter is direct replacement fot the OEM filter.
If the Filter does not improve performance, Subaru would have little defence
But if KN Claim to, or get Performance gains from the filter, Subaru could claim it's not a direct replacement for the OEM filter and possible cause of the failure and anyone could guess the outcome ![EEK!](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/eek.gif)
Now below is how I interpretated there Policy but i will edited and remove this post if I'm wrong.
I think KN state they will help towards any Legal costs, for any refusal of Warranty because of use of there filters.
But they will NOT undertake any repair Cost during a dispute. So please Email them for a full understanding of what's covered and not. Especailly if fitting a Induction Kit and which is not a Direct replacement for the OEM filter
Get a AP meter or Delta dash to test before and after improvements. Sometimes more sound does not equate to more performance
