Hi, i have a MY98/99?? singapore sourced imprezza. The trouble is the car is meant to be a WRX, i bought it on the understanding that it was 280HBP Jap spec car, but i believe the WRX in singapore can be much less. I have tried decoding the VIN and model/engine numbers but the FAQ does not list these exact numbers. I was wondering if anyone could through some light on exactly what model my car is, what sort of power it should be producing and what fuel it was meant to run on.

Model code GC8FK8D
Engine type EJ20G NW6ND

Thanks

Ste

looks like a UK model code, take a look at http://www.iwoc.co.uk/ukcode.html and you will see the same spec car listed. so based on that you are looking at a 215BHP UK spec car, not a JDM spec WRX.

This is so weird, my car has folding leccy mirrors, yet has folding rear seats, it also doesnt have a rear wiper. It seems that singapore get some sort of hydrid of JDM and UK/Euro spec cars. This is really annoying because my insurance is costing me an extra 350 quid over a uk spec car, yet its the same.
Also i am not sure whether i should be using octane booster with this car or not.

maybe if you get the code number off the ECU we can help more. The ECU is mouted under the passenger footwell, it will have a code number printed on it, that should help confirm the engine spec.

Question

That number doesnt mean anything to me unfortunately. You should have an part number somewhere on the ECU that has AD*** if it's an MY98 which i think your car is.

the code for the MY99/MY00 ECu's are

UK WRX - ae800
UK WRX - ae801
UK WRX - ae802
European WRX - ae780
European WRX - ae781
European WRX - ae782
European Prodrive P1 - ag340
Japanese STI5/6 - af040
Japanese STI5/6 - af041
