What was the lambda reading?

Without knowing that, the likeliest candidates would be a knackered lambda sensor (most likely) or knackered cat(s).

The lambda should be 1.00 for the MOT... Looks like it's new lambda sensor time.

Thanks for the replys so far.....

I have had a little look and the sensor seems to be on a pipe that runs from one manifold to the other. On the one side of this pipe out of sight under some other stuff it sounds like it is blowing.

This I assume would give the lamda false readings and would richen up accordingly.

What do I need to order to sort this out - is there a gasket at the end or am I off track?

It would indeed give a false reading and cause the problem. Hopefully you just need a manifold gasket. Difficult to say without seeing, of course!

OK. Thanks for the help. I will order a gasket tomorrow (or book it in somewhere.) Thanks again.
