Impreza vs Evo
#1
Would an STI6 beat an Evo6 GSR in a straight line over a quater mile, both standard at 276BHP. I believe the STI6 would win. So how come the new STI8 always gets stuffed by the new Evo8, as seen on the Clarkson video.

the GSR would most likely win, they are outright faster cars than the scoob. The standard 6 GSR figures (as per mitsi's website) for 0-60 dash was 4.4, i believe the STI6 would be around the late 4's to 5secs. The Evo has more torque through the rev range also, and as such the in gear accelleration of a standard EVO6 would outgun any standard Impreza, Import or otherwise. So with that in mind i think the 1/4 mile would be a victory for the EVO.
I own a 03WRX myself, so i am not biased in my views, and if anybody would like to correct me then please do. But the EVO in standard trim is faster than the Scoob.
Neil.

I agree with Neilo, not a chance in hell. As for the 276bhp, there's some wierd *** agreement/law in Japan that means that cars cannot be advertised as having a higher BHP than this, though they can be whatever they like
I'm in the understanding that EVO's are well in excess of the 300bhp mark, and a 0-60 time in the mid 4's is about right.
(Non biased fellow Scoob owner too)

It really wouldnt make that much difference, it might be a little closer, but the result would be the same.....
For out and out pace, an EVO is a quicker car than a scoob.
I think that i would be confident in saying that a standard EVO will get in to the 13's fairly comfortably at the hands of a good driver, im not so sure about the Type R or an RA for that matter.
Im sure somebody has a link to that website with all those 1/4 mile times on it somewhere?
Edited to say "In standard Trim"

A v6 RA is a lot lighter than a evo6 gsr and straightline its power to weight which makes the difference also take into account an ra is fitted with a close ratio box for aceleration and over a 1/4 it should see of a standard e6 gsr.
A 1240kgs RA on paper is 20bhp per ton better.

Rember Clackson Head to Head he raced an M3 Roadster,22B and Evo 6 in a straight line. The outcome was 1st M3 2nd 22B 3rd Evo6.
A 22B as been proven to only have 276BHP on various rolling road tests.
So why if you take an STI8 with the Prodrive 300BHP package. It will always lose hands down to an Evo FQ300.

hehe, who knows!!
Thought i may have been corrected on the Type RA, i guess they could argue that the RS is lighter than the GSR, and EXTREME is even quicker still.....could be endless, but the original post was a 6 GSR and an STI6, i would maintain that the GSR would still win.

An STI8 is 1470kgs and an EVO8 FQ is 1410kgs
Its all to do with power to weight and to some extent gearing and obviously torque
An STI8 would have to have more bhp to make up that 60kgs extra weight.

yawn yawn yawn..how come i saw a hard driven evo 8 fq330 make a complete prat of himself against a myo2 wrx then?
(i was there you know who you are and if 3 attempts was not enough to see us off how many goes do ya need???!!!!!)
why does no one take driver/conditions/luck etc into consideration?.. imho evo's(and yes i love em) are really overrated? have witnessed loads of evo v scoobs in the past all incarnations and to be fair think the extra money is hard to justify on a evo.... all imho of course!
just the other day a close friend gave a evo6 (whats that worth??) a proper dusting in his 94 wrx wagon ..nice little cross country encounter,he admitted losing out slightly to sixty but caught him and pushed and pushed till he got by..... like the old saying goes power is nothing without control..

STi6 is about 1280kgs and the E6 is about 1365kgs (only had TME figure)
Assuming the STi6 is 276bhp thats 215bhp/ton
If the E6 is 276bhp thats 202bhp/ton
If the E6 is 300PS(295bhp) thats 216bhp/ton
My money would be on the sti, standard for standard

But thats the point, the 276 is a gentlemens agreement, just so they can keep japanese government happy so they print it in their figures.
Most standard EVOs will rolling road at over 300bhp. Hence why they will apear so quick in a straight line, its because they are. When bends are involved its all down to the way they are driven, of course it is.
But even given the same driver in the same conditions, evos will lap a circuit quicker than scoobs, but the sacrifice is that you will probably need your own chiropractor to sort your back out from the harsh ride thats all!!

There's a lot more gizzmo's on a standard Evo which would probably make it faster than the scoob
In fact there's that many gizzmos on an Evo - I was at Santa Pod last year with a m8 of mine in his Evo, he got out to talk to someone and the the fookin' car did the 1/4 mile on its own !!!
