I know absolutely nothing about this, but when I asked the service boss at my local dealer he muttered something about "all pops and bangs, don't do much else"
I'm sure lots of people will disagree c this. As I've said no opinion on it myself.

Your car already has a dumpvalve on it Neen, one that is designed to work with the rest of the components, and one that works perfectly fine. It just doesn't make silly, unnecessary noises, which is a problem for some people.
Aftermarket dumpvalves are just, as Kend's man says, about pops, bangs, whooshes and other cosmetic things. They shouldn't cause lag if adjusted properly, but they won't help the performance of the car either. Due to the design of the Impreza's engine managment systems, the loud (vent to atmosphere) ones make the engine run worse to some degree or other.
There's plenty been written on this subject, and a couple of good threads over the last few days, so to save unnecessary repetition, have a look in the technical or drivetrain forums, or click the Search button.
