MY03 specC rolling road result -> 321 lb/ft
#1
Had my MY03 STi specC (twin scroll) on the rollers today at Prosport... Got 321 lb/ft @ 4100 rpm, and 298 bhp @ 5200 rpm.
Mechanically the car is standard all except for the STi GeNome stainless steel backbox (this is an item in the Japanese STi parts catalogue, rest of exhaust is standard). Standard induction. This car is not remapped and was running on OptiMax only, no octane booster. Air temp was 52 degrees F at the number plate.
Remember the figures you're seeing quoted for a 'specC' in Evo magazine, Jap Perf magazine, Autocar, et al are for the red Litchfield car which is a 'specC Limited' remapped etc. This is not a standard car out of the box from Japan.

I beleive that Prosports rollers are pessimistic (some may say more accurate) compared to others.
EDIT: I mean this as a good thing, BTW. You know you're not being fed "headline" figures.

I would agree, "more accurate" - we had an S reg 200SX there as a bench mark which came out at 205 bhp (induction kit and back box) - think 'standard' is around 195, so spot on. Also two MY99 UK turbos which came out at 238 and 242 with only Scoobysport exhaust. Good indicators I'd have thought.

who's that dubious character in the hat - wouldn't trust him near a Scoob
Seriously though - Thanks for a great day out - excellant place that I'll be revisiting if anything needs doing to the car (that is, if I can find the place again !)
Did anybody get any pics of my DGM (first on the rollers)?
If so I'd be greatfull if you could send them to my profile address.
Thanks In advance
Chris

Cheers for the pic Mike!
Also had a great morning, pleased to have met you all. Good luck sorting your motor wah.
Towers, looks like your more interested in the camera than the car, or was your mind on a bacon sandwich?!

The Spec C is a longer wheelbase than any other Impreza, the lower front suspension arm is located further forward, moving the wheel away from centre in the bodywork. They do this to increase the static caster.
#22
The wheelbase of the spec C is 2540mm, all other Impreza's are 2525mm. To achieve this the lower arm has an extended rear mount and an offset bush in the arm where it bolts to the crossmember.
The efect of this is to push the lower part of the strut forward, increasing the angle the strut is tilted backwards. This gives you a higher static caster. Static caster is the value of this angle with the steering straight ahead.
You also have dynanic caster, which is the effect on the strut angle as you apply some steering lock. The caster changes as it goes through an ark via the steering. Changing static caster also affects the amount of camber change you will see as you apply steering. Increasing caster puts more weight into the steering and sharpens up the responsiveness and change in direction. The downside is it makes the car more lively and joe average can find that harder work to drive.
Like all the settings on a car, you are looking for the best compromise for your use, as the spec C is more performance oriented you want it to be more precise and you live with the fact it will keep you busier at the wheel.

Good description John. The car looked pretty different when we got it up on the ramps today at Prosport. Shame my camera battery had run out... next time I'll get some pics of it all. Seeing zero underseal rather than just reading about it really hit home!
Certainly feels pretty heavy and weighted at the wheel compared to my last STi. These newer STi also seem quite centre weighted. All good stuff, just need to beef up my forearms :-)

Sounds like you all had a good day there today, I nearly came down today to book it in for next week. Should have gone in on thursday but snow would have stopped me going to work so had to cancel.
Nice car, is this the one that was at prosport late last year(nov Dec time)?

No, it's a different one.
Came with the following extras:
- Defi 3 gauge pack (in the batman style housing)
- Subaru front splitter
- Subaru rear splitters
- Subaru side skirts
- Subaru sports grill (removed)
- STi GeNome stainless back box
- STi front and rear strut braces
Anticipate the follwing extras:
- driving lights (not fogs)
- STi8 rear wing
- colour coded wing mirrors
- pink 'i' badge
- STi silver gaitor surround
- black sun strip with 'S U B A R U' lettering in white (not silver as per WRC car - trying to keep the car either white or black as too many colours can make it all start to look tacky)
I may get some 18" wheels too so I can have the RE070 on current 17" BBS wheels for the summer when it's mainly dry, and the 18"s for when it's wet.

I think they've dropped the 'typeRA' badging now since the move to MY03/STi9 from the bug eye specC - simply specC now :-)
Don't know, what were your results from the RR? What is your specC setup - any mods?
What colour is your limited btw?

2 mike swrt: What i've heard they didn't drop that "type ra" badging meaning it's 110kg lighter than the standard sti. Doesn't matter anyway The results were 295BHP and 300lb/ft. No mods yet so far, gonna change the exaust and get a TEK3. Mine is red.

What's written under the 'STi' badge on your boot lid? Mine just states "specC" whereas the bug eye specC stated "typeRA specC" - would lead me to conclude they have dropped the typeRA designation.
The standard specC is only 90kg lighter, the Limited specC adds some of that weight saving back on.
