Change oil and filter at 3,000 miles, use Optimax for maximum chance to avoid any chance of detonation. Treat the car with mechanical sympathy and dont redline it at every gearchange, nothing to be gained using much more than 6300 RPM anyway. Use the gearbox sensibly and dont chug along in a high gear. Dont neglect the servicing intervals.

Thumbs up

No point. If it's working fine, there's nothing gained from mucking about with it, and if it's degrading, the only reliable answer is replacement with a new one.

The best way to monitor the health of your MAF sensor is with a KnockLink and/or an AFR meter, or something like a SECS/DeltaDash that can monitor and record airflow values.

If the sensor is on its way out, you will notice a gradual leaning of your mixture on WOT, together (if you let it go far enough) an increase in engine noise and eventual det.

Incidentally, for those now dead keen to do their own oilchanges every 3000 miles (which is about the right frequency btw), it may be worth you having a peek at this thread or, more specifically, here.

Even if you get a garage to do your oil, it'd be worth making sure they follow this general technique.

Talking Greasemonkey`s my hero!!

just read through the threads you highlighted. An excellent reference point for non-mechanical minded folk like myself, especially the step by step guide to oil changing and dry cranking. cheers for that. just printed it off and will stick it on my garage wall.
