What could i get for 2.5k?
just throwing a few possibilites around, as im hopefully going to have a bit more disposable income in the next few months and was considering getting a cheap scooby for track days and such as.
too young to think about insurance on the road but i reckon i could afford it on occasions for the track and could rent it out to my dad in the mean time
so, what performance can you get for around this 2.5k mark, if any?
not bothered about leather interior, air con, looks, etc, just purely performance.

I'd argue for a 200sx too, my mate has one, very fast car for the money with lots of fish-tail fun! plus if your only using it for trackdays, look into the drift club stuff, 200's are about the best drift car you can get for the money.

Another vote for the legacy turbo. Had one for 6 years never had a thing go wrong. 4 cams,16 valves,4WD & a 197bhp turbo motor. All this for well under your budget. So money left over for some nice mods.

200sx is the plan. You'll get a much better car for your money and one that's probably a lot more fun on the track.
A mate bought one and has taken it from 160BHP std. (0-60 in under 7) to almost 300HP for just over a grand. (Doing the work himself)
There's an excellent board at http://www.sxoc.co.uk/

lol @ selling the wife!!
dont have a wife as yet so ill see what my mum would fetch. im sure there are weirder things on ebay!!
so..........
it seems that the 200sx is the way forward.
a legacy would be a good idea but my dad has a vw camper van with a legacy turbo going in it in a few months courtesy of these guys- www.tsrdragracers.co.uk, so i want something quicker than that!!
didnt think about drifting to be honest but im starting to come around to the idea now
also, papscooby: what did your mate do to the sx to get it over 300?? im curious as i have a few mates and family members who could save me loads in labour so its go loads of potential. whats the best spec sx to go for anyway? thanks for the link as well.

for the money that your looking at spending your best getting the s13 model, it's a 1.8Turbo that knocks out about 170-180bhp. full turbo back exhausts are a piece if pi$$ to fit, plus if you get an older one (my mate has a J reg one) they don't have cat's so you don't need to worry about emmisions. I think the standard manual gearbox is good for about 320bhp if i remember correctly so you don't need to worry about that.
one thing you could do is get a bigger turbo as it only has a garrett t2.5 as standard, SAAB front mount intercooler and a remap, that should see you with a bit more power.
take a look at www.sxoc.co.uk, there's some fun on there and the guys i met at croft seemed pretty cool

yep, late model S13 is the way forward, but they are only 160BHP as standard, they're very light though (no a/c, abs, etc.) You want a late S13 (after 92 i think) as they have a LSD.
He, did the usual, air filter, 2x 3.5" exhaust, huge intercooler, bigger turbo, ECU. Some of the parts were 2nd hand and he did all the work himself
I think he's got about 280BHP now but once he gets the Skyline injectors in and the final ECU remap he should be just over the 300 mark
get on over to sxoc
