Unhappy cam belt tensioner

It could be your cam belt tensioner has gone?

Mine did on my MY95 uk car.I got the symptoms you are describing because the cam belt had jumped a tooth on the pulleys.

Could be lots of other things aswell thogth.

Coilpacks??

Hope this helps

Chris

P.S. get it to an expet asap

if its only jumped a tooth a rebuild may not be required.

im in batley near well lane mate i got a price for a tensioner from the dealers i think it was just 130 not quite sure then so if only jumped a tooth or so then wont need a rebuild. this may sound daft but could i check the faultcode on the ecu would it tell me if the fuel pump is nackered or the relay etc etc thanks

your in luck mate, just had mine done 4 days ago at oakleys ,ex subaru garage in bedford.

hears the break down,

cambelt 104.60
tenshioner 96.79
idler pulley 37.93

labour 180.00 @ £60 per hour 3 hours

vat £73.38

£492.70 ouch

But !!! as they where doing the tenshioner, you may as well have the belt done as i did because there is no extra labour charge, and the idler pulley useally goes as well.
Sounds smooth smooth smooth !, plus no piston slap type noises on cold starts etc

What a strange co-incidence. I had a similar set of symptoms and suffered the indignity of being towed home behind a big yellow AA van (after telling him <30 mph at all times). Fault diagnosed as...fuel pump. My car...a 95MY JDM WRX
