I bought my Scoob as an approved used car on a W reg a week and a half ago. They said it would be serviced, but looking in the book It was done 6 months ago and now I'm looking at 500 notes for a 45,000 service with cam belt :X
The car has done just under 33k
I'm thinking they should stump up for it, as surely thats sailing close to the wind for an Approved used Subaru. What do you think?

Too right it is, I had some trouble like this with my "proven" Subaru. Get on to the dealer ASAP in writing as well as by phone telling them of the shortcomings along with any other little problems (like knackered tyres). Tell them you will contact IM about the problem as well. Tell them you are considering rejecting the car as it was effectively mis-described. Did you get the HPI check paperwork and a copy of the "proven" inspection sheet as well? If not ask for these, it may well be they didnt' bother.
Name and shame the garage as well. If there is anything elses I can help you with then just ask. These people should not be allowed to get away with it.

How to complain:
be polite but firm. Tell them that you had specifically asked about the service and they told you it wold be done and that as far as you were concerned it formed part of the contract to buy. Explain that you're happy with everything else but you want them to honour the agreement you made. If they still refuse, mention Trading Standards, the possibility of small claims court and of course the 25,000+ members of Scobynet who take things like this seriously when considering which businesses to patronise.

I had the same trouble, got onto Subaru UK and they told the dealer he had to do it, the saucy gits the dealer that is, it should have had the big 30,000 miles service as the milage was 30,400 and they did an interim service instead of the big one.

I thought they serviced it as part of the approved scheme , mine was when I bought it .Perhaps it was done but the book wasn't stamped , the old left hand right hand !, guess you've got to give them a call .

Thanks for your advice guys. I'll be on to them today...
I'll update this thread with the results. If it's an oversight re stamping the book then I'll leave it be. If not, they get shamed.

Unfortunately this seems to be a common trait of subaru dealers (especially on the classics as the service intervalls were 6 months).
Exactly same thing hapened to me when I bought my 01 WRX. Was told that the car had FSSH (including bodywork service) and would be serviced as part of the deal. When I got the service book through (had been updated to 10K and 12 month intervals) it hadn't been serviced and the body work service had never been done. The only thing that had been done was me

Phoned to complain, was told my word against theirs and I couldn't be bothered to take it any further. In your case I would as the 45K is a major service![Frown](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/frown.gif)

What's the betting he doesn't ring you. Telephone the manager of the dealership and fax a list of your concerns and problems with the vehicle ASAP. Don't rely on a salesman who isn't there. If the dealership is part of a larger group then get on to customer services ASAP as well. You need to move quickly on this thing to avoid being left holding the baby.
I speak from experience, the quicker and more decisively you move on this the more you will get from them.

Dealer called. He has apologised and agreed to be invoiced for the Service and the replacement spare key by SGT(not the selling dealer, SGT are my local dealer and very good they are too).
Well done. He called when promissed and I have it in writing as he faxed confirmation through immmediately after our call.
Happy customer.
