Question Deposit when buying a car?

Seen a scooby that i want to buy for around 10k but I can only free up all my money in March.

If you was buying a car privately would you be willing to put down a deposit and trust the person not to do a runner with your money?
If so how much would you put down?

If you was selling a car will you hold it for a months with a deposit?

If I do will a contract between 2 people stand?

get a receipt for the deposit and a written agreement signed by both parties

saves problems later

If you've met the seller and feel they're trustworthy then I don't see why not. As for the amount, I guess it should be enough to make them take you seriously. I'd say £500. Just as a precaution, you might want to check the max amount that can be persued through the small claims courts. Whatever the limit is it would be worth considering this when determining your deposit. Just in case.

not worth the hassle trying to get back such small amounts through the court.

If i were you.. i'f get my money sorted THEN look for the car.. in another month another car will come up that you like.

If i were selling.. i'd want to sell NOW.. and not risk waiting 4weeks till i see the FULL amount!

worth waiting if i were you... and not rushin into it now when you've not got the dosh.
Or get a quick loan in the mean time.. and pay it off when you get your money sorted.
there are some good rates out there under 7% apr that llow you to pay back as soon as you want.
