Expect a reply from Greasemonkey on the STi numbering.... AFAIK they stopped numbering them at 6 as they were all Jap and Subaru wanted a global product.
I'm sure someone will correct me in seconds but ..

is the sti 7 280 bhp and the sti8 less ?
Are you asking about European or Japanese market cars, and of what specific model years?
The Japanese market STi's have had between 285 and 300bhp as standard since the STi Version 5 and through the 6, MY01, MY02, MY03 and MY04 generations.
The STi Type UK's (and the very similar European version) have been rated at 265ps since the original 2002MY version was released (there wasn't an MY01 version Midlife), and still are.

argue wit me all u want, but our dealer/supplier said and i quote "vr6 is MY00 and classic, vr7 is M01/02 and bugeye. while vr8 is M03/04 sofar and "blob" eye", n he quote that from fuji industry/subaru.
not sure bout european market, but we in brunei got the same spec as the ozzies,

I don't have to argue about it Jackie, my position is supported by the people who actually make the cars, so if you're going to disagree with me, you're also basically saying that Subaru and Prodrive are wrong, which is a rather difficult proposition to support, no?
Your dealer is doing exactly the same as the people on Scoobynet who use these "numbers" -i.e. making it up as they go along.

If there were no changes between model years then the STi? would perhaps run through but this isn't the case, there are always changes. 01 is different to 02 (grille etc) as well as not being sold in markets outside Japan, just as 03 has differences to 04.
As we didn't get STi in Europe until 02MY then it is impossible that the following description can apply for example; 'STi7 PPP' We don't do a PPP for ANY JDM car and that's the only place the car was sold as an 01MY
Much better if we all use Model Year.

Lol, in this instance, it was impossible to answer Virgin's question accurately without bringing the MY and market into it, so what else did you expect?
There's far less room for confusion if MY and market are used instead of the "numbers", which have now been misused and misinterpreted by so many people that only very few now know what they really mean.

Well, science fact is that Japan doesn't use them, and therefore, as greaemonkey says, you can get stuffed about if you try to apply that to something that plainly does NOT match it.
The "revision system" is similar to the year sytem, but release dates are not calendar. IMHO, it'd be much easier if people just learnt how to read the VIN plates.

i have learnt everything i know on scoobynet
The reason why some people use my03 sti8, or whatever,is becuase when they first come on the site they pick up whatever they first read or hear as a referal.
So........
Do i use the term ......Myo3 sti uk model or STi 7 uk model or Sti 7 import etc
I am getting realy confused !
The faq sheets dont specify out puts on later models on sidc
I am new,i dont want to upset anyone ,however if i use the term sti6 i get moaned at,and if i use the term myoo i get asked if its an import.
anyway....dont get offensive with each other over, just understand the terms on this site will no doubt carry on spreading like a virus, unless its defined somewhere like on faq pages,new members will just keep on picking up bad habbits.
you guys are the experts ! whilst your all moaning at each other new memebrs r picking up the wrong terms.

The problems started when the new age cars came out, and Subaru not only decided to give the "base" turbo car the same name (WRX) across the world, they also introduced STi's in markets other than Japan, and stopped allocating the version numbers in public.
Loads of people naturally tried to carry the numbering on, but three or four separate and incompatible systems sprang up. Hence you get the same cars called by two or three different numbers, and two or three different cars referred to by the same number. Result is a totally unworkable situation where nobody knows WTF anyone else is talking about without asking what model year the car is and where it's from. Hence, it's easier to just get straight to the MY and market...
and if i use the term myoo i get asked if its an import.
The UK market cars were called Turbo 2000 AWD's, the European mainland market cars were called GT AWD's, and the Japanese market cars were called WRX's.
Similarly, if you said you had an STi1-STi6, everyone should know you've got an import as the old shape STi's were only available in Japan.

The funny one is the use of V-Limited which everyone gets wrong . The MY00 STI limited version was known as the VI-Limited according to the JDM brochure

yep 22A was a 2.2 litre normally aspirated engine and the 22B was the turbo charged 2.2 litre engine
