Don't know about 3 door, 2 door you proberly mean. Best place to try is the Autotrader website, Top marque and look in the for sale forum.

Chaos, why does it have to be a 2 door coupe?
The basic 4 or 5 door models are perfectally driveable
Also and I may be incorrect but teh Type R's are not really best suited to the road as they are made for track use hence long gearing (or short can't remember which ) the ride, the noise
Also the servicing on any Scooby is crazy
Not trying to put you off but the above are just some of a reason that I have postponded the purchase. That and insurance

Chaos, the header of your post and some of the comments further down the thread are a little ambiguous.
Are you looking to buy a WRX Type R or a WRX STi Type R?
These are two different cars and the differences are important. The WRX STi Type R's are more powerful and have additional bits - like the electronic centre diff and intercooler water spray, that the WRX Type R doesn't...

Whats the difference? 30+ BHP?
Just to clear things up, what does STi mean, is it a company that tunes them? Confusing..
Does the electronic diff let you choose between 2 and 4WD? I don't know an awful lot about them..
edit - what does wrx mean?

The later models are both rated at 280PS = 276bhp. The STI has a higher rev limiter and also a higher torque figure. In the case of the MY00 its 249lb/ft for the WRX and 260lb/ft for the STi. The STi normally has a few extra goodies WI, DCCD, quickrack, STI ECU and a blueprinted engine.
It was rumoured that the last of the classic WRXs were about 280PS but the STi were closer to 300PS.
sti = subaru technica industries (subaru in house tuning division)
wrx = world rally cross = world rally experience = world rally extreme
take your pick

No, but you're thinking along the right lines. The car is always 4WD, but the DCCD allows you to adjust the way the centre differential splits the power off. You can use it to make the car more oversteery under power/unstable under braking, or, at the opposite end of the scale, more understeery/more stable under braking.

Think of the WRX Type R as a BMW 3- series coupe, and the WRX STi Type R as an M3 coupe...

Chaos, do you have any idea how much these cost to run and service? Are you aware that imports are only supposed to be run on Optimax?
Servicing - 1 big service (£200) and one big one (£500) per year and that is minor servicing, major services are shocking.

a) They have been remapped to run safely on UK fuel
b) You are running a KnockLink and thus know your car isn't detting.

The later sti type r is rated at 300 ps mine made 309 bhp with both cats so 276 is a bit below.STi is the better car IMO as it has DCCD and all the extra toys.2 door is defo the best loking scoob and the type r/ra is the best performing scoob to date

STi stands for Subaru Technica International
early type ra cars to June '96 (i think) had sand cast closed deck blocks, forged pistions, wild cams, ported heads, solid lifters, fifth injector etc etc and are still supposedly the best engines/car to get if tuning for big power.
i'm fortunate enough to have just had one fitted to my MY95 WRX, but am still running it in and have FMIC and a whole host of other performance goodies inc. ECU remap, fueling mods and so on, so can't quite comment on standard performance.
however, i trust you're looking for a later model car - this will more than likely have a die cast open deck block - still very tuneable and quick none the less!

Imports cost no more to service than UK spec cars, quite often they are cheaper to maintain because you aren't paying main dealer service costs.

Independant TypeR Servicing can be as little as £80 for a minor 3000k service or as much as £280 for a Major service excl cam belt (full service + Oil + filter + fuel filter + my provided plugs + replace antifreeze + replace brake fluid + replace gearbox oil + replace rear diff oil + labour).
I don't think you could see those prices at a main dealer !!!!
And as for an everyday car, apart from the number of doors, I don't think the STi-RA and R are very much different in terms of noticable road manners.
best places to look for a typeR are on this very BBS site in the for sale sections...
