Costs of importing from America

Seeing as the $/£ exchange rate is going in our favour, I was considering importing some bits for my STi from the USA - namely a clutch and a big brake kit. My question is what are the costs involved in terms of :
1) local tax/duties on top of any website price
2) A rough idea of shipping costs (obviously weight / size / speed dependant)
3) What Import duty will be due when the package hits the UK?
Anyone have experience of importing bits??

I import Vinyl records from the States a lot, generally very cheap but the shipping costs are ridiculously high. (last one I bought was $1 with $8.99 shipping) If your happy to wait then surface mail is a lot cheaper, just make sure you know the costs before you order. I've never paid Import but then the item cost is usually very low.

lol a bit different to vinyl, and would probably be noticed by customs... but with the dollar exchange rate so good I'm sure it will be worth it.

i tried to import a monkey bar to fit on boat for wakeboarding its 3 tubes to make a bar rather like a goal post about the size of a double wardrobe when assembled, the bar was cheap 400 dollars but tax and courier was 650 quid making it far more expensive than uk
its been known you can avoid tax by marking it birthday present but as the carrier now collects tax and it may be pay or no way
