Seem to recall someone commenting that they'd been offered £18K3 on a regular STi in px for a WR1, so allowing another grand for the PPP and you're looking at 11-12 grand to change up.

IIRC insurance is a fraction cheaper than an STI Type UK PPP.

Agreed. £30k for the WR1 (no movement on price) £19k-ish for STi PPP, so £10k, probably £11 to change.

Thumbs down and the £12,000 question is?

Would it be worth it?

Can't see it myself, not unless you are Richard Prior and need to dump loads of cash....

Exactly my thoughts. I have decided to keep my 03 STi and just improve it, i.e Prodrive Springs, Goodridge hoses etc, I already have the Prodrive wheels, TSL Exhaust, Mudflaps and I prefer the WR Blue colour of my car. Each to their own I guess

at that sort of money i wont be bothering! would expect to sell my sti for 23K private or am i dreaming? Cant believe i have lost 8k in 10 months! Look on subaru's website at the cars and they are selling for silly money!

Insurance is my main problem!

Just been quoted less than half my impreza insurance for a 30k bmw 330ci sport convertable! (just not a scooby though!)

Personally, I've been offered a very reasonable deal to trade up to a WR1.

The finance is slightly cheaper, due to increase residual value, as is the insurance.

On that basis even my Wife said I'd be silly not to change. However, I suppose it depends on personal circumstances and the deal you're offered.

Deerhunter,£8k in 10 months is good for a Subaru, they depriciate so fast and it makes me laugh that the dealers wont move on new prices for the horrifically coloured WR1.

Expexting £23k private, you are dreaming,i've seen them going at dealers for £19k,admittedly with no PPP.

Keep the STI and dont line the dealers pockets even more for the WR1.

just go to the subaru website and check the prices! how come they are selling them for stupid money, dealer offered me 19K today and said he would retail it at 22.5k! i cannot find any cars for this price on the web or the autotrader nationally! would love to trade it and go back 1 week later to see the price on the window!

Anyway the sti stays after forking 2k insurance today!

think prodrive springs are to be fitted as this years treat!

BM - also has £600 excess! that is with 7yrs NCB , no accidents or convictions! Liverpool postcode is the looser (and its one of the better ones!!) - even says on the renewal that 'due to your insurers claims performance over the past 3 years within your postcode area, your insurer has revised the rating of your policy!' and 'your existing insurer is not looking to attract new business from within your postcode and thus should your policy lapse we will not be able to offer you insurance' , but it was £1.5k cheaper than subaru insurance and 2k cheaper than anyone else!

Does inc. protected no claims and trackday cover with higher excess for the day....

Didn't used to be like that in the good old days, remember reading an article stating they only lost 28 % in the 1st 3 years and were the least depreciating car around.

Sorry, but I really can't see where people are getting some of these figures from.
Of course back 'in the good old days' when I had my '98 residuals were better than they are now, but suggesting that Subarus have bad depreciation is a load of cobblers. PX prices used to be better, but they're still a damned site better than most cars.

I got px figures of around 60% of the original value on both my '98 and my P1, both after 2.5 years, and with around 40k on the clock. On most cars these days you lose more than 40% driving them off the forecourt! Obviously there were issues with the bugeye, but that was an isolated incident, albeit an unfortunate one for bugeye STi owners.

I'm reasonably happy with what I've been offered for mine, as it still gives me equity to put into the WR1, and considering I've never dealt with this dealer before, I think it's unlikely he's done me any kind of special deal. However, the increased GFV of the car still makes my monthly payments and insurance less on the WR1 than my STi.
Of course I would have liked a little more, but I know they'll be quite a few STi8s (sorry Mike) coming onto the market all at once, so I never expected 'top dollar'.

As I've said before, it's down to personal choice/circumstances and what deal you can negotiate. However, I do find it a bit depressing when people decide to slate cars or manufacturers simply because they either don't like the car, or couldn't find the deal they wanted. It happened with the P1. Several members seemed to devote all their time on SN to slagging the car off, citing potentially horrendous px prices and God knows what else. If you don't want it, don't buy it. I'm sure IM wont have too much trouble finding people who do want one.
